I paid £603.60 to Elite Greenhouses Limited to supply and fit a greenhouse for me. Unfortunately however, Elite did not carry out some of the installation of it with reasonable care and skill: Elite’s own fitter installed the auto louvre opener incorrectly. This resulted in it not being possible to regulate the temperature in the greenhouse, so it was impossible to grow fruit, vegetables and plants successfully.
As I had a greenhouse which was not fit for the purpose for which it was bought, it become necessary for me to write 4 lengthy letters and then put them on notice before issuing a claim for breach of contract under the Sale and Supply of Goods Act 1982 before they finally undertook the repair necessary. (Their fitter removed the auto louvre opener which had been installed incorrectly and then re-installed it correctly – the auto louvre control has functioned correctly since then.)
However I was so worried about the appalling manner in which Elite had dealt with my complaint that I reported them to Trading Standards and sent them copies of all correspondence between us. Trading Standards confirmed that my complaint against Elite Greenhouses has been recorded on their Bolton and Bury database.
In addition to this, and before the repair was carried out, their Managing Director Mr Hannant felt it appropriate to insult me. I have requested Mr Hannant to apologise to me for his unfounded and totally untrue insults several times, but to date he has ignored my request.
I would never have bought from Elite Greenhouses in the first place if I had known they would put me through such unnecessary grief. I am writing this now to try and make sure no other person is treated in the disgraceful manner that I was. If you want a greenhouse, bear my experience in mind before buying from Elite Greenhouses Limited.
