I am wondering if anyone has had any dealings with, or if they can offer me any advice on my dealings with a company called Aquashield. Their Head Office is in Bishopriggs, Glasgow but I dealt with a depot in Liverpool.
Their representative called at my home in September 2008 and led me to believe that there were various things wrong with my roof that could be put right if I allowed them to treat it with their "wonderful" coating. It was very expensive at £3,150, especially as I am retired and on a very small fixed income, but their representative went on and on about it and in the end I signed the contract agreeing for them to do this.
In October of 2008 they came out and washed my roof in readiness for the coating. When they left we noticed that they had blown 9 holes in our plastic carport roof with their power washer. We phoned them to inform them of this damage and were told that someone would ring us back, they did not. Between October 2008 and January 2009 we phoned them endlessly and also wrote to them. We were fobbed off, spoken to rudely or generally just ignored.
On the rare occasion that we actually managed to speak to anyone in authority we were promised several times that they would come out and look at the damage and several appointments were arranged. They never turned up to any of these appointments and we were left to sit in waiting for them.
We repeatedly told them that we no longer wished for them to coat our roof and would pay them just for washing the roof but we were told that we had signed a contact and had no choice in the matter. On one occasion their Project Manager at Liverpool told me that we had signed a contract and they would be coming to do the work “whether we liked it or not”. We felt intimidated and bullied.
Finally after countless calls and several letters they came to coat the roof (whether we liked it or not) on January 26th 2009. They also told us that they would replace the carport they had damaged at the same time. After this work had been done they left a dreadful mess with the roof coating they had used all over our front door and windows. They also broke our hose pipe and when we asked someone to look at the new carport roof we discovered that it was just a botched job and they hadn't even used the correct materials. We made further countless phone calls and wrote letters of complaint.
After several months of being largely ignored some of their staff turned up in May 2009 and actually told us that the roof had not been coated correctly and they would have to do it again. We were beginning to think this nightmare would never end. We were told that they would return and redo the roof but since then we have heard nothing. I have made countless phone calls, only to be fobbed off or told the person I need is not in and will call me back but they never do. I have written many times to the depot that did the work and also to their Head Office in Glasgow but have had no reply.
I have since been told that this company may have featured on BBC1's Rogue Traders last year and I am contacting the BBC to see if they can assist me. I also intend to report them to Trading Standards and to sue them for the return of my £3,150 under the sale of goods and services act.
I wondered if anyone else has had any dealings with Aquashield and I wanted to warn people they they are an extremely rude and unprofessional company. Check Google for all the complaints about them and stay away, especially if you are elderly like me and simply can't afford to be ripped off.
