thought i would also add a comment on here whilst im targetting lincolnshire telegraph.
they all try and pass themselves off as real newspapers that are accredited and genuine, these guys are certainly not either of them.
waste of time, energy and money if you ever get a phone call from one of its sales people.
Some of the titles in this company have now started removing their back issues from their websites.
This will hurt them more than it will hurt anyone else because they ALL sell their advertising by saying the following:
"You will also benefit from FREE online exposure, as we upload all of our back issues onto our website".
If this has been said to you then - get your money back!!
It also doesn't work well for them that they wont send out hard copies of the titles and many of them have now password protected what editions they do have available, and will not give out the password??
there are so many titles included in this "organisation" it's unreal. one of which is lincolnshire telegraph who are among the worst, as well as new titles such as london and home counties today, everyone must avoid these at all costs. they rip you off, take money from your cards without any authorisation, and basically you get an 8 page newspaper through the post (if at all) which looks like my 6 year old daughter has put it together.
Those of you interested in this "company" may also wish to see my post on Wyvern Media, which seems to be connected. Either way, JPC, Media Today Online and Wyvern Media are companies to be avoided at all costs.
came ino contact with this company trading as Central Advertiser. Received no hard copy.pressured sales tactics.Contacted by another suspicious advertiser who had an on-line copy of said publication-on contacting several advertisers shown in this none had seen a hard copy-some paid over a lot of money. Advise stop all credit and debit cards given to them. One elderly lady I spoke to had had her bank account cleared by them.It is a hard trail to trace them back to JPC. These people are despicable and should be ashamed of themselves-get a decent honest job and stop ripping off decent hard working folk and vulnerable people-the lowest of the low.
I could write a ten page essay about JPC however ill keep it short and sweet avoid north thames press and west counties express like an oncoming train they are both part of jpc and will rip you off also type this into google see what shows up westcountiesonline.co.uk. I noticed that they are looking for sales executives don't be fooled by the fancy title all you do is cold call and lie to make a sale.
i worked for one of these paper for 3years. Basically we print 5000 however i dont think these papers ever get distributed. we would regularly get clients checking the places where these papers suposedly go to and they were never delivered. waste of time advertising.
i worked at nottingham office for around 3 years in the mid 90s. had a great time and earned good money too and a company car. yes i pulled every trick in the book, merit of achievment awards gave a company a free 1/2 page ad for a list of thier suppliers who would pay for ads showing support had 4 chip shop of the year awards in one year. some customers actually did get a good response. some got none, that happens with all newspapers but it was cheap as chips as they are always on deadline. never forget one edition with a photo of the manager which the production guys scratched out his eyes on the proof leaving 15000 copies sent out with him looking like the devil. a good experience and for price of adverts you cant go wrong
Up until very recently I worked for the current printers for JPC and can confirm that they have only ever printed a maximum of 5,000 copies of any one title. Definitely a company to steer clear of!
hi everyone just to make you aware that jpc are trying to avoid paying ex employees aswell as their bills by changing offices and their company name on the sly! how i know is i went to collect some wages from the coventry office and found that they were closed! and the name change . . . anyone that tries to sell you advertising space from wyvern media group is a 100% jpc. They think they're clever changing names but i needed to let all the people they try to con know . . .so be careful.
On reading all of the comments about this company, I feel that many of the people may of exaggerated slightly the experiences they have had with the Journal Publishing Company. No newspaper, magazine or other publisher can guarantee a response, although many people have had business from one of the journals newspapers. They may not always look the best newspaper but who cares if the business gets a response!! Lets be honest, there are glossy magazines around that do a worse job than any of the journal newspapers, and for some reason none of them are on here. I actually advertised with 5 of the journal newspapers and found it all very amicable. 2 of the newspapers, I didnt get a response from but they were out of my area and it was worth a punt at the price I paid, but the other 3 generated me quite a nice return and I would use all of them again. I hope that anyone reading my comment thinks twice before not using one of the journals publications, just use the ones in your local area and you will do fine!!!!!!
Be careful, now they're going online. I was contacted today by educ8tv and The Education News from an office in Lickey, Birmingham. Very rude sales person, using the same old tactics as mentioned in other posts here.
Did a week's work for Journal Publishing Company in Corporation Street,Coventry, last November. Everyone seemed genuine and friendly. They let me go after a week cause I didn't make a sale. It was all very amicable, but subsequently I never received any wages. All my letters and emails were ignored (I was polite and courteous). So I attended a tribunal three months ago in Birmingham. No-one from JPC turned up. I won the case, the judge said I was entitled to £250 for unpaid wages. still, I heard nothing from JPC. A disappointing lack of professional courtesy.
A couple of years back we placed a large advert in a JPC publication to advertise an event. But unlike other papers which put a date on the paper, JPC printed an issue number. It turned out that the paper goes to print once they have sold all the space, and despite booking a specific week, the paper actually came out 3 weeks later - which was after the event had been and gone! I wish I knew then about JPC. They also said that "X" number of papers were circulated in the area (locally to us), and to this date I have never yet seen one anywhere.
But now every week, a rep from JPC rings up saying they saw our wonderful advert in particular paper/magazine, and can offer us a large ad space at a special rate etc etc. The reps are easy to spot, and we ask "are you from JPC" to which they usually reply "No". But its soon easy to the get the info from them to prove otherwise. When they ask why we wont advertise, we now say , "when you go home, google 'JPC Blagger' and you will see why". Hopefully they will do so, and then look for a better career.
Each time they ring, we ask them to remove us from their database and not to ever call again, - but this seems to fall on deaf ears!
Hi there, i have a few things to say about this company. Firstly outside their company office on corporation street in Coventry they have a huge banner stating that there are job vacancies and you will be fully trained etc etc. Well they must be taking on at least 15 new trialists per day, none of which they seem to be employing for the long run. They have also taken up a job advertisment on the jobcentre under several different job titles, seems rather strange to me. If you can read and write in English then they will offer you a 2 day trial after you have had your 35 second interview. On you first day you will be handed a script of which clearly states that there will be 45,000 copies published and distributed to homes over the value of 500k and other upmarket areas. The company stinks to high heaven of dishonesty in the highest order. This company is a sham! They are using and abusing people and it stinks! I will be reporting this company to the consumer watchdog. Do not work for this company and do not deal with this company what so ever!!!!!
I work for JPC and am ashamed to admit it! They use every single one of the tactics mentioned in the last few pages, from the number of papers they claim to distribute to calling the paper by a different name. Clients will be told that their advert is going in the "County Name What's on Guide" when all adverts go into the same stingy 8-page paper. Clients are promised that they can have target advertising and only appear in certain counties, but only one paper is made.
I recently found out that the sales team has changed the amount of papers that they tell clients. It used to be 45,000 (4 TO 5 anyone?!) and now they're claiming their readership is about 300,000 per county. We had one poor bloke absolutely drained by the company only to realise he hadn't received a single call back.
Passing contact details around does happen - the papers will all get in the same leads time and time again. They will all deny any involvement with other papers. The company also has a number of complaints about double payments being taken - I wouldn't like to comment whether this is on purpose or not, but it seems odd that so many people have problems.
I understand other employees wanting to stand up for the company, either out of loyalty or simply wanting to keep their jobs, but I know these tactics go on in other offices - I have had dealings with three or four of them.
Avoid like the plague, I guarantee you will have problem after problem if you advertise with any company that cold calls you with "amazing advertising opportunities"
Many mistruths on here I've notcied about JPC. I've worked for them and never had any issues. Obviously a few corners are cut but that happens in many journal companies. Not sure what one poster was on about saying their paper never got distributed. I assure you it would of. All titles get distributed. Why lie?
Hi All I like to add my comments on to this blog. I worked for JPC for a number of years and met some very interesting people indeed. I think the comments made about them are from ex-employees who have little or nothing else to worry about. True there were bad times but there were good times too. I think the Directors there have seen a niche market and have gone for it and have proved hugely successful and fair play to them .I started there in the very early days and saw that Company grow.I left after many years service and have benefited from the experience.I feel i helped them on their way and to see them still going with all this negative feedback from you lot speaks volumes. All i can say is they are not that bad to work for. In this day and age i can think of a lot worse. The chasney boy
journal publishing group aka cheshire gazette/staffs journal
I'll start by admitting I was an employee of the jpc shortly after leaving college and it is the dodgiest company ever i worked on the cheshire gazette for a bloke called dave and also was told to use the trick of 4-5000 coppies but make it sound like 45,000 copies. I was also told to say it was a tabloid size paper and yes it was in dimentions but what you are not allowed to say is that it is only 8 pages at best there was little editorial if any mainly adverts that were cut out of other publications. In my office which was about 5m x 4m there was 2 publications cheshire and staffs we had 1 fax machine and 1 pc between 2 publications which was a joke.
What we were also told to do was if there was a customer that you had got on that was pretty easy to sell to (gulable) that we would pass their details around the company 4/5 publications so everyone can get abit out of them. The papers never got distributed they would get delivered to the main office in derby and sit there untill they were collected by the recylers the following week the managers didn't care what you did as long as you got between £700-£1200 a week in sales it is just a sham of a company and i wouldnt advise anyone to work for them or advertise with them as even as staff they mess you about with your wages
How much skill do you really need to work for such a shambolic company really Fiona? i am not a ex-employee i actually recieved an invoice for an ad i placed in the Lincolnshire Telegraph. Now when i asked why i have never heard of this paper i was told they only go to house's worth over 500,000 pound!! throughout Lincolnshire i find this hard to believe as my house is worth well over that amount, also that they were part of media today yet the invoice says jpc publications, fishy dont you think changing a company name could it be that you rip people of and offer a service you cannot provide im glad i only got stung for a quarter of a page at a cheap rate. All that i can say is dont advertise with media today i mean jpc confusing isnt it Fiona, oh and the Lincolnshire Telegraph......
I have spent much of the morning reading through the various comments made about my employer on this site and find it rather comical that bitter ex employees have nothing better to do other than slag us off, surely your time would be better spent securing yourselves new skills to ensure that you are capable of keeping your next job. Also a tip for the future is that potential employers will not be impressed about you making negative comments, it is a very unattractive personality trait.

even though jpc still appears on invoices.
If approached by the company media Today and they say they have nothing to do with jpc don't belive them, keep them at arms length.
