After using a complete cowboy to get the pilot light going in my back boiler ('Kevin' - he didn't manage to get the front of the fire back on straight, and there was a smell of gas after he'd gone), I thought I'd pay top dollar for Pimlico Plumbers. Surely they'd do the job properly. Chap came along, did the boiler service OK, then started 'fixing' the pilot light. Despite having had the problem explained before he set out, he didn't have any spare parts in the van, and disappeared to Sydenham (the nearest plumbing suppliers to Dulwich, apparently) for 50 minutes. At £90 an hour, I thought this was a bit much. Came back and had terrible trouble fixing the pilot - constant complaints about the job the previous guy had done (yes, I know, that's why I called you in). He had a great deal of trouble getting the pilot alight, and as soon as it was he scarpered, leaving me £300 poorer. This was on Friday. I came back home on Monday, having been away for the weekend, and the thing went out the instant I tried to get the burner going. Only then did I notice the get-out-of-jail-free clause he'd written into the invoice, recommending further work as 'there may be problems in the future'. Fair enough, nothing's guaranteed for ever, but two days? When there was nobody home? When I phoned to complain, customer services were as helpful as a brick wall. Pimlico are a bunch of cowboys in shiny vans. Don't use 'em.

Flabbergasted by the negative comments on the site. OK, they are a tad pricey but I have had five jobs done by them recently ranging from roof repairs to joinery and they have been exemplary - fast, excellent standard of workmanship, polite and very tidy. You could use A N Other but you just don't know what, if anything other than aggro, you're going to get. The harsh Blagging Pimlico has received gives me the nastiest suspicion that some of the comments are not kosher and derive from some of their cowboy competitors...quis custodet custodes ipsos, eh?

Had another plumbing company out today (aspect) which, somehow i got to their website through a link saying pimlico plumbers? found this rather underhanded, anyway, they came over, and the guy was absolutely useless, didnt have a clue what he was doing, so i told him to leave. I then called pimlico, who was very efficient, and they repaired the problem within minutes.

It just goes to show, that you get WHAT YOU PAY FOR!

I had an electrical problem at my property, and within 40 minutes, had a lovely young chap called ricky turn up at the door. within 20 minutes he had diagnosed 3 seperate problems with the lighting which kept blowing the fuse. Yes it did take a while to repair the problems, but i found the engineer very professional, helpful, and he knew exactly what he was doing. The job was done neatly and successfully, and he cleared away all the mess afterwards.

Thanks pimlico plumbers.

Very poor service, very poor job done. I felt utterly at their mercy. They came and kept saying it would cost more, and then that they wanted to get someone else from their team involved. in the end we just had to get them to keep going because they had made such a mess. someone looked at it today and said they thought it might be dangerous. I'm so depressed about it. they were really chirpy to begin with but as time went on and we started to question them they closed ranks and actually became quite rude. don't use them. use someone like british gas services. they are really honest and trustworthy.

I had them out this morning - the first guy couldn't resolve the problem and said he needed to call another plumber (his choice). They then decided that we needed to pay £150 for the first guy and £80 for the 2nd guy. If they had sent someone initially who could do the job I would only have had to pay £150. I was at work and refused to pay the 2nd invoice over the phone - whilst this conversation was going on they bullied my wife into making the payment. Never use this company....I thought they were reputable but obviously not.

Charged me just over £400 for two visits in relation to my faulty boiler and still failed to diagnose the problem, which has since transpired to be a faulty pump. The Pimlico Plumber engineer first replaced the gas valve (it has since transpired this was not necessary), when that didn't work, he told me there must be a fault with the electronics panel and I'd need to get the manufacturers engineer out to look at this. I did, Vaillant's engineer told me it was just the pump and any plumber should have spotted this. I paid £400 for nothing and an extra couple of days without heating or hot water. Never ever use or recommend this company.

I wondered if they employed female plumbers, for my elderly neighbour who she'd feel more comfortable with. I in the end used an all female trades directory called Saferservices I found on Google and one of the women plumbers on there sorted her out nicely.

(Please don't enter comments in capital letters) I phoned Pimlico plumbers to explain that my kithen floor was very hot and feared a bursted pipe underneath the floor. While I was explaining the situation the phone operator started asking my name, address and credit card details. Because I was very stressed I gave my details( I agee this is my fault but believe they use very agresive selling methods ).The plumber came withing 20 minutes which means He wasnt far away.He said it was only condensation and I should get a machine to deal with it. When I phoned the company to say that NO JOB was carried out I was told they would still charge me £80 plus vat. I said that I understand to pay for travelling time and 3 minutes inspection but found £80 excesive. In a VERY RUDE tone He said they didint need sustomers like me and hanged up the phone .I WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN.

I think their claim on their website of charge transparency should be revisited, and explained to their engineers. I explained the job over the phone and they said it would cost £80 for an engineer to come and take a look and provide an estimate, but this would be taken off the bill if I placed the work with them. To which I agreed. However the engineer that arrived did not feel confident he could provide an accurate quote for the job, saying it was not his area of expertise, which was at least honest, and indeed he was a very nice chap. However, it still asked for the £80. I refused, saying that I had not received an estimate, and would pay when Pimlico Plummers sent someone with the right experience to price the job. He grumbled a little about having to come across town, but to fair to him he agreed I had a point. I'm a bit frustrated that I took an afternoon off work for nothing, but at least I didn't pay their call out charge for nothing too. Reading the other comments on this site makes me realise what a ridiculous policy this is -- depite their claim that they don't charge for call out or estimates (except in exceptional cases) they do seem to want something for nothing. No wonder they turn over £13million a year.

charged nearly 800 for a leak that reappeared after the third visit. engineer time wasted sitting in his van to get charge us more, also drove for 1hour to get a 'piece of tape'. avoid

 Goudy at 21st Apr 2008, 09:24PM
Ten minutes to tell me that they couldn't replace my radiator valves, £94. Absolute disgrace, stay away from this company.

 aargh at 31st Jan 2008, 11:46AM
Pimlico Plumbers phoned ten minutes after their agreed 4-hour window to say that they'd be about an hour late. I had stayed in all afternoon for them and couldn't wait another hour. This is very poor service in my view.

*NOT AFFILIATED TO THIS COMPANY*

..but I doubt you will believe this!

The majority of these complaints seem about the firm charges?! Well plumbers are engineers, they have to spend years at college, take countless different moduled courses to understand lots of different systems (unvented hot water systems, CORGI, ACOPS etc etc) yet people begrudge paying wot 80quid an hour or 90 quid an hour?!

But ofcourse you will all happily walk into the usual large DIY sheds and hand over 10 thousand quid for a kitchen made in china which comprises basically of chipboard with a fancy front on?! then moan your ar*** off when your plumber charges you two or three hundred quid to run the gas to the hob and issue all the necessary certification required by law to ensure the works don't kill you!

People get a grip, and If you don't like paying the charges then spend thousands of pounds, spend years training to do the job yourself.

The workman was so polite when he charged me £250 for fitting a new tap on my kitchen sink, I was just too nice and middle class to argue. The thing that really annoys me is that they make such a deal about campaigning against cowboys! There's a saying about "pot" and "kettle" that springs to mind!

 richardr at 29th May 2007, 02:07AM
Rates are not Exhorbitant but in the end the bill will be!
Billed 269.39 to change one tap!!!!
complained of course and reduced to 88.13

There are some decent plumbers who work for this company but my overall experience has not been good at all. (a) Failed to accurately diagnose a leaking pipe from under the bath such that a second visit was necessary (b) Charged me for both visits despite the fact that it was their error in failing to spot the mistake the first time(later agreed not to charge for second visit when I wrote to complain). (c) one of their bigwigs arrived in a pin striped suit to give a quote on the re-tiling and grouting of my bathroom (very small bathroom). The total estimate came to £4000. Before giving me the quote he said "I hope you know what sort of company we are..". I can think of a few choice replies but I'll keep them to myself.

I'm a pensioner whos friend called Pimlico Plumbing out because she was cold. She phoned me in the morning and i told her to call a plumber so she went to the yellow pages, i arrived three hours later so she wouldn't be alone. When these guys finally came out after making her wait in for a whole day, (i'm surprsed they didn't arrive on horses) complete cowboys, as soon as they arrived, she was asked to sign a sheet for work which hadn't been done yet, then another van turned up, obviously a company which its left hand surely doesn't know what the right is doing, the engineers looked at the boiler for approximately 10 minutes before saying a new one was needed because the boiler was leaking gas, they turned the gas off and gave her a warning notice before charging £95+VAT (because it was out of normal hours!!!)even though they didn't do anything, leaving my friend without heating for yet another day.
We was told a new boiler would be in the region of £3000+VAT. After looking in the Yellow Pages again we found GasN1, who are a family business, I spoke to a man named Les who was very helpful on the phone and assured me that one of his sons would be round to help, when he arrived he showed me his Identification, (which Pimlico failed to do) and also found the gas leak, which was on a pipe coming into the boiler, they charged us £125+VAT for fast, reliable and friendly service, i'll be sure to be telling all my friends about them.

Poor service from poor staff, I have had dealings with this company and strongly advise anyone looking for a quick reliable service to look elswhere! A company purely run on a shoe string charging very high prices, shop around and you will find that you can get the job done at half the price!!

 tjdv at 6th Apr 2004, 01:20AM
no way! I have been warned about these people. they are COMPLETE rip off merchants and please try to find someone else. They quoted my mate near to a grand to get some piping problem sorted and she got it done by other Corgi registered people for £200,

 fishface at 27th Jan 2004, 04:56PM
quick, efficient service. Emergency response time 999 like with a affable, informative representitive. Not the cheapest but by no means exhorbetent.
