I had my windows and doors replaced in 2004 and all has been well except for a few minor issues which we can live with - doors hinges shaking etc.
Now I am in the process of selling my property and have been asked to produce a FENSA Certificate. I only got a 10 year guarantee.
I do not know what to do in this case. Any advice?
The finance company is equally liable for any faults which are covered on the 10-year guarantee for the duration of the finance. This is due to the Consumer Credit Act.
Speak to you local Trading Standards, or even write to the FSA and advise them of the problems.
I am still trying to fight the finance company who Coldseal arranged for me. I have a signed sheet detailing the cracked windows and mis-fitted french doors at the time I last saw a Coldseal rep. Yet the finance company still paid coldseal the full amount. On top of this I have now lost the 10 year guarantee and have had to pay a local fitter to put the work right. The finance comp state there is no case. I am writing to the financial ombudsman, but has anyone had any luck any other way?
I can get all coldseal parts locks, hinges, window espagnolettes etc. I am a member of the British Locksmith Institute and are therefore governed by a code of practice and do not offer anything less than complete satisfaction to all I can help. Please feel free to visit my site first at www.mtclocks.com or follow this link directly to the upvc section, http://www.mtclocks.co.uk/miscal.htm If you would prefer call me direct and i will try my best to help you. I have Locksmiths covering a large area from Newcastle & Scarborough down to Exeter & Torquay. Please be aware that not all areas can be covered but I will endevour to help you if I can. Call me Martin Clyde direct on 07976896799 or E-mail your queries or problems to coldsealhelp@mtclocks.com
timmsey the patio parts you require are available from synseal or hayward williams depending on which patio you have as they manufactured both types at coldseal. if it was brought from them before feb 2004 it will be a hw patio
I am trying to find some trims/coverstrip for the ends, top & bottom of a patio door. if anyone can help please let me know. Even if you had a patio fitted by coldseal and it has to be replaced.
Check out the posting ref coldseal windows from pink23p4 - they are forming an action group to try and help us all out of the sh@t that the shower that called themselves directors got us into.
However they do need as much info as you can get so e-mail them at pink23p4@aol.com and keep your fingers crossed!!
did you speak to the same person? I was told this fraudulent trading was beyond their jurisdiction but they would advise the Police and DTI investigation branch.

I spoke to trading standards in Derbyshire about the CPA. I am getting the cheque back from the bank to see what account it was paid into. Trading standards want a copy so perhps if a few more people raise the same problem it might help. email: trading.standards@derbyshire.gov.uk

Have faith wrg, there will be a hearing administered by the Official Receiver and then quite probably a vote of creditors to determine the identity of the Liquidator, it won't be Ernst Young, (HW's Auditors) you can count on that. You'd also be surprised at how many Creditors supported the Admin application.
Shame really, an Admin order would have saved the Customers deposits and put a good few back in work. Anyway, water under the old bridge m'ducks. Onwards to the Creditors meeting and lets hope its open to the free press. I feel it could be quite 'revealing'
now berg, kaprow ,lewis have lost we all now have to wait for haywood williams to appoint a liquadator ????? but i think its time to right it all off. i wish you all well ex staff and customers but i feel its been a real scam and we can not do anymore. I must say its all been down to haywood williams not karl or any other director or manager. It could have been saved.so boys take your vans and cars back and move on (goodbye) ps if you know of any work let me know

ian3663, I found exactly the same thing with the CPA. I followed the instructions in the booklet the coldseal guy gave me in order to register my deposit, but the CPA refused to take my registration. I pointed out that allowing coldseal to register us was open to abuse but the CPA didn't understand this and wouldn't take my details. Personally, I would not trust any company who uses the CPA for their customer protection as they seem to be a pseudo insurance company accountable to no-one. I've tried various organisations in order to discuss this problem but nobody seems to know who the CPA is regulated by. The only place I haven't tried is the GISC, but I haven't managed to find much out about them yet.
I wrote to the CPA about my problems and they put me in touch with their insurers who have just written to me trying to wriggle out of sorting out any problems - making out that my problems were due to faulty installation and that I need to bring this up with Coldseal's public liability insurers! Insurance? Insurance against them paying out - I'm sure this is also a scam, but am gonna pursue this a little further!
Seems as though you guys out there are slipping off the pace, don't please. This issue is far to important to let apathy get in the way. We are trying to help you. There is an issue here that needs to be brought into the open. This business was closed down for selfish and monetary purposes. The people responsible for that need to be challenged. Subscribe to the two new action groups. No cost, totally private and well worth it from what I can see.
Like hugo I paid a seperate cheque for £25 made out to the CPA when I ordered my windows in Sept. It now appears that this cheque was cashed by coldseal not the CPA.
Are the CPA involved in this scam? I called the CPA just after I had placed my order and long before Coldseal went under because I was concerned that Coldseal were not following the exact procedure detailed in the CPA booklet. The CPA helpdesk confirmed that Coldseal was a member and that it the paper work would be forwarded to them directly by Coldseal as the sales rep had told me. But now they say that don't cash individual cheques and that my paper work is not with them.
I have had some interesting emails and I thank each person who has been in touch.
It now seems there may be a second group of people who might be helped.
This is a genuine quest, and a there is a very good chance of a positive outcome.
A lot more information has been passed to the lawyers who are taking further advice form counsel.
Bye the way, if anyone is wondering I am not, and have never been connected with this sorry bunch called Coldseal.
I am a victim!
If you imagine a group of people on one side of a river, and the end of a rainbow on another, it is my aim to build the bridge, and trust me that bridge is getting built piece by piece every day.
The pot at the end of that rainbow is a big one and its brimming full, because to date no one has dipped into it.
Please keep emailing me......
I must make it clear that not everyone can share the pot, but there are thousands of coldseal customers who are entitled...
In the Office of Fair Trading web site it covers "equal responsibility".If the trader arranged the credit via a Bank or a Finance House(they are known as "credit grantor")then the credit grantor has equal responsibilities for breach of contract or misrepresentation. This would apply to those of us who took out a loan with COLDSEAL's reccomned credit company FIRST NATIONAL BANK. I intend to write a letter to FNB asking them to honour COLDSEALS 10 year gurantee, as it could be said I suppose that the 10 year guarantee was part of the contract
cant believe such a big company has done this someone reccomended coldsael to me who had had some work done so i thoght i would be ok with this company how wrong i was! it all started with one of their reps coming out to see me who i signed up with and gave a £600 pound deposit to .recently i had had a berevement and was using the money that had been left to me to finally have my windows replaced.i was so excited and i then had a survey done that was now 4 months ago i was distraught i had lost my deposit and now i wouldnt have my windows fitted till i read ann days comment left on here i contacted premier conservatories and have just had my windows fitted by them all i have got to say is what an excellent service from start to finish i recieved i explained my situation with my lost deposit and they even took the deposit off the price for me i couldnt believe it so i got my dream windows and i got my deposit back it just shows that the good ones make up for all the cowboys out there if anyone wants to deal with real proffesionals i thoroughly reccomend them and you never know they might help you out with your lost deposit all those less fortunate than myself .thanks ann day there number if anyone wants it is PREMIER CONSERVATORIES 08004587293
AK - Watchdog said that all info would be on their website. I too wish I had never used Coldseal but have learnt a valuable lesson to check out companies before I use them in future.
ak - no mention of liquidators, but they can be found on this website, berg lewis something or other, all you can do is send your details to them and hope they include you in the liquidation package, but don't hold your breath as I'm sure we are way down the list of priorities.
