REALLY!!?? - If this is the case, then why do so many people have complaints about the conduct. I can't honestly believe that EVERYONE on this forum are abusive to Wescot staff!!
I am now in the middle of my second lot of dealings with this "company" over catalogue debts taken out fraudulently by people who moved into the house I used to own. The debts were taken out after I moved and I have provided proof of this. I have now contacted a soliciter who tells me they are contravening the OFT guidelines. I have to write to them advising them I am taking further action if they do not resolve the matter within 28 days. Then I have to complain through them as they can revoke their credit license if there are enough complaints. If you read their guidelines you will find there are lots they do that they shouldn't. The attitude of the employee depends on who you are lucky or unlucky enough to get on the other end. I have experienced both varieties. My main lesson has been to ask for written confirmation of every dealing with them.
I work for Wescot and I know there are some rude staff but in the minority.
Our job is to try and recover the debt in full or in installments. If you can't afford the full amount, we have to ask you why and how much you can afford so we can work something out. Telling us you can't afford anything at all is not sorting your debt out.
If the debt is not yours i.e. fraud, then we have to get some more details from you in order to sort it out. This means you won't get anymore phone calls asking for the money. We don't try and get you to pay for a debt that isn't your. When we speak to people who scream at us "It's not my debt!" then hang up the phone, we can't do anything else except call you back to get more information. We need to be able to sort it on our side as well so shouting at us and hanging up does nothing at all.
Personally, I've never had any complaints about my conduct on the phone as I understand how it would feel to be spoken to in a patronising tone, but when we get calls from debtors who shout and swear at us adament they will not pay their debts and then hang up, there isn't much we can do to help them.
Most people in my department are relatively young people and we aren't "hard nuts". We're generally cooperative if you are as well. If you won't give us any details then we can't help you.
My advice is to go through the proper channels. If it is not your debt, contact the police or where the debt originated and report it as fraud.
If it's your debt keep us informed about you circumstances and up to date with payments. The sooner you clear your debt off the sooner you have it off your mind.
If any agent is rude to you, take their name and then ask to speak with a manager.
I'd rather not be hated by society so I understand politeness goes a long way, after a few manager calls I'm sure the rude person would feel the same.
I too have had a bad experience with this company and I hope someone can help. In 2000 I owed £1200 to a store card admittedly I got into trouble paying this back and this debt was passed onto Wescot. I made an arrangment to pay £21 per month and never defaulted on this. Since the agreement I moved house a number of times but my standing order still went out and I thought nothing of it. Last year (Nov) I thought I must of paif off the debt and cancelled the Standing order. I got a letter in February asking me to contact them bearing in mind I had not heard a thing in 8 years. I was sick to my stomach to find that even though I'd kept up with the arrangement the amount outstanding was £1720 £520 more than the original debt even though some £2000 had been paid to this company over the 8 years.
I was told by the very rude representative that it was of course accruing interest!!!! I have told them I'm seeking legal advise and they offered to reduce the debt by 25% if I paid it that day!!!
Can anyone help me. I'm in the middle of a divorce and really don't have the money to pay this debt! What's more as I've alreay paid £2K why the hell should I.

Wescot.
Last year I recieved a letter from Wescot, stating I owed something like 78 pounds from a card company I have never used. After weeks of phonecalls and abuse off members off staff, they finaly backed off. Thanks to my partner pretending he was a lawyer.
Now after being out of the country for 13 months I have recieved another letter, adressed to me but sent to my grandparents house stating I owe 36 pounds, again from a company I have never heard of.
My advice to anyone is don't pay if you know the debt cannot be yours. It can't be right to send letters to any address linked to me can it?
I've seen various complaints about this company last time i researched it online. I'm not even going to call them o sort it out on advice of someone who works in law who say's they are getting investigated.
I came across this website and noticed the comments about the above agency. I'm just about to make a compalaint about their breaching the Data Protection Act, as yesterday they sent a letter to me at my daughter's address. My daughter has never had anything to do with the problem or virginmedia who the referral was from (it was an error on their part and it's now sorted - I hope) so how they got hold of her address has got to be illegal (I work with patient data at a GP practice and know how strict the rules are) . Anyway I found the info about making a complaint very useful so thankyou. This company needs to be taken to task
I have read most of the comments and the one thing i noticed was that nobody had bothered to find out how to make a complaint. Wescot is a member of Credit service association and as such is regulated in respects of complaints. (I found this out coz as my husband says i am a b**ch who wont let go when worked up)
Let me give you a little background, I moved into my property 2 months ago and was given my tel number 5 weeks ago. Since then i have had calls upto 6 times a day for a woman i have never heard of. Repeated calls explaining this got me nowhere. The last straw was this morning when i heard my 13 year old giving her personnal info out. By the time i had got out of the shower my daughter was off the phone. i 1471 and got WESCOT, who didnt seem to care that they had taken info of a minor. In fact the man who i spoke to was rude & unhelpful.
As i explained when worked up i like to get even. I googled Wescot found their website and noticed their membership to CSA. I then googled CSA and looked on their website for complaints. I only had to use the first stage to get my problem sorted.
In the case of Wescot complaints, you need to call 01482 380644. This by-passes the national rate number as well as the call centre and puts you in contact with the complaints dept. (This is NOT a number given out by the call centre until you mention CSA membership and that you will put in a complaint to that body regarding them)The woman who answered listened to what i was saying asked some personnal questions (This is needed to look into and confirm what you are saying)After 20 mins on the phone (she did offer to call me back) she has confirmed that she had contacted the relevant dept and all calls will stop. She even gave me her name so that if Wescot do call again i already have a contact in the complaints dept who will already know the details after looking them up on the computer and will fight your corner.
IF ENOUGH PEOPLE DO THIS MAYBE WESCOT WOULD HAVE TO CLEAN UP THEIR ACT.
Dont forget CSA website will give you info on the next stage if this somehow fails.
Good Luck to all those having problems with Wescot
this company is stupid not only they dont listen to you but they say the havent received the payments when you have paid and they ask for the receipts, which i have looked at some of your experinces with them and this means nothing as they dont even open there post by the sounds of it, i have had it up to here with this company, i went overdrawn with abbey which they passed it on to them, i wouldnt mind but i went overdrawn by 2p lol and now because of there so called bank charges its turned into £165.00.
i dont know how the people who work there sleep at night.
I was wondering could anyone give me some advice on this so-called company. I spent an approx. total of £15 with Studio Cards, last October-November last year, paid the money, still have the receipt to say I paid, yet over the last year I have been receiving letters, including phone calls, saying I owe now a payment of £94.05. This morning I've had a "final reminder" for the above payment and £80 legal expenses. I've sent 7-8 copies of the receipt to Studio Cards, CapQuest and Wescot; none have been received, coincidental, isn't it? So they said I've been sending to the wrong addresses. See a pattern? And no this letter is come. It’s disturbing and threatening. It’s worrying me half to death, I’ve already been a victim of ID theft, and I don’t need this before Christmas. They don't seem to be listening to me.
can any1 give me some advice. an ex boyfriend of mine stole some credit cards of mine, when i had realised what he had done i informed the police even though he threatened me not go to them- once i did he broke into my flat and attacked me and my friend with an axe the police turned up and he was arrested with the axe and charged with gbh. egg credit card wrote the debt off but coop wouldnt, 5yrs later i have just received a letter from WESCOT threatening me action unless i pay £837 what is the process how many letters do they send before they send any1 to my house? shall i just return the letters to sender? it sounds if i ring them and try to explain i wont get anywere! will they turn up to my property?
i am being hounded for a debt that isnt mine or that i can afford to pay anyway PLS SOME1 HELP WITH ADVICE
this is the most bent company i know..i have overpaid them by over £100 ive written and emailed them .but ive had no response and they still have my money..they are in no position to judge anyone ..they need a visit from the debt collectors themselves ..bunch of hypocrites
I know exactly how 'aps' feels. I was putting my monthly amount for o2 in my account and they never took it! instead it rolled over to the next month and the next and eventually i owed near enough £100, all becuase they didn't lift it from my account. It is ridiculous, but i have to admit, i thought i was the only one this was happening to, it just shows what pains they are!!
Funny , after receiving a debt letter from these people after 02 failed to collect £15.00 before closing my account ( clever !! ) i phoned them (wescot) to be treated like a criminal ... or at least with NO respect whatsoever , this none payment is no fault of mine .. the standing order is still active but 02 in their wisdom decide to send a debt of £15 to some company rather than retrieve the funds from my bank ... so .. anyway i needless to say paid the meesly sum of £15 within the phone call ... So today (4days later) i receive a further letter "reference the phone call we had with you on the 28th when you agreed to pay the £15.00 " It is important you honour this agreement ... WHY DONT THEY CHECK THE RECORDS AND SEE .... THEY HAVE RECEIVED IT !! simple enough task , plus the money has gone out of my bank so i have proof ... or is this a sign of the type of company they are ? open mouth before engaging brain ? possible ?
hello guys and ladies, please advise me on this,
WESCOT have been promising me bailiffs and all sorts of other actions for a debt to 3 network,
i had a contract with them that i ran for 6 months, i took out insurance, when surprisingly in december they were charging me for calls to a landline (£50 ) when i was entitled to 1200 free minutes, their representative sorted it out and told me to cancel the direct debit (their own member of staff) so that the balance they now owe me would be offset against my bill, i did this then renewed the direct debit AFTER they offset my bill, now in January my next bill was due on 26th they disconnected me for non-payment of that bill on 19th 7 days in advance, how can they predict that i will not pay the bill?
I work in the courier field and due to their useless actions i lost 3 major players in my business who needed contact couldnt make it went elsewhere, thats life they dont wait for me!!! because of this my business went tits up and i lost the lot, so first thing to go was the phone, i called them but the people in the call centres in the indian outbacks dont want to even try to undestand, now 3 keep putting more on the bill, i told them i am now unemployed and it is their fault, they say they will keep charging me $45 per month, i said as long as they do that i am getting into a deeper hole, now my bill is with wescot who after threatening me tells me that the bill is £294.10 and will continue, they even told me that they encourage 3network to increase it monthly to teach people like me a lesson, i am getting to the point where i shall welcome the bailiff with open arms and take it out on them! so annoyed that 3network say the insurance is invalid because at the time i took out the contract i was a personal user and therefore not covered, even though they took money from me every damned month for payment to an insurance that doesnt cover me
AARGGGGGHHHHHH
i would just like to say thanks. i read items on this site a week ago as i recied a final notice demand from wescot for a £57 debt i supposedly owed grolier well i emailed them to say i owed grolier nothing and had correspondance and reciepts to prove it and that i would not be paying a pennyand that there were several disgruntalled wescot clients out there who could very easliy upset the company. well it worked i had wriiten correspondace from them saying the matter was investigated and that yes i owed nothing, is nt great what a little bit of threat does. then i recieved a letter from the nelson guest solicetors stating they were qworking on behalf of wescot to reclaim the money!so i cant wait to contact them and tell them all this correspondance i have and that there is no outstanding money owed. i didnt know sites like this existed but i am glad they do as how many other people fall victim of these so called debt collectors?
I have just had the last piece of patience tested with Wescot Credit Services. I have been paying them regularly for an overdue, which was entirely my fault. I set up a standing order and asked them if they would tell me when the debt would be fully paid. They told me it would be April 2007. When i called them at the beginning of April i asked if they could send me confirmation of complete payment, which they did. I was fully paid 1st Feb 2007. I have spent the last month trying to get my money refunded. I was told it would take 30 days because they'd have to find my payments and gave my bank details. I phoned twice a week to check on progress and was finally told that payment had been made and would be with me tomorrow. I called my own bank who told me nothing was due in. Back on the phone to Wescot who promptly told me there was a problem with my bank account so they hadn't made the payment of £240.00 back to me. I hadn't received a letter, got a phone call or anything from them to let me know, which they are usually very good at doing if your payment is held up due to a bank holiday (which happened to me twice and they tried to charge me for)Now they are saying that on Monday they will be sending me a cheque.. Why does it take that long?! i have been spoken to like i'm a child, told that its my own fault and that i'm "lucky" that they were organising a cheque this quickly. I have felt powerless against them and fail to understand why they feel being rude, unhelpful and obnoxious is good customer practice. Thankfully, once i receive my refund i will have nothing to do with them ever again.
These guys (Wescot) are attempting to collect monies from a disputed account.
This isn't the problem. The problem is they have just sent a letter to me, but sent to my sisters home.
We (my sister and I) have different surnames, I have never used her address EVER. So my question is, how could they have got hold of her address ? and what rights do they have to send a 'Notice of Debt Collection' to my sister.
hi all,ive read a few comments about wescot and have decided to add my own personnal exp.
my so called best friend racked up a £500 over draft on my bank account when i was in hospital following a v.bad car crash which i NEVER had an over draft!!!!!!!!any way i got letters from wescot demanding the money i payed a bit back then lost my job therfor i couldnt pay any thing as i was living off my parents.i managed to get myself bk on my feet and agreed to pay wescot £61.61 for so many months to clear my debt.fair enough.all payments were going fine until nov 2006 wen i was told they never received a payment wen i knew i was as i made all payments by cheque. i checked with my NEW bank and it was confirmed that the cheque hadn't been cashed.i contacted wescot and told them i would send a cheque immiediatly for nov missing payment and for decembers,a cheque of £123.21.only to later receive a letter from the bank that i was overdrawn and being charged £30.i checked my statement and saw that wescot had not only cashed the recent cheque but also the MISSING cheque which lead to my bank account being overdrawn.(back to square one)i conntacted wescot and they still say they nerver received the first chequei got copys of said cheque and bank statements and posted, emailed and faxed copys to them.finally in february after many calls they say the missing cheque was paid into some other account of theres, and agreed to reimberse the missing cheak but would not pay my bank charge saying it was not there fault (cheak).i have rung them again this evening only to be told thay couldn't deal with it as my account is still in arrers by 5P!!! untill i pay the outstanding 5P they shall not refund my money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i think ive spent more in phone calls, letters etc. now i think is this hassle worth it for 60 odd quid????????????????
i have never had a credit card or debit card, never been in debt, always deal in cash and always pay my bills on time.
however, this means nothing to certain debt management companies, who have sent letters to my address demanding payment of imaginary debts. i have been beyond patient with these people, polite to the point of subservience, and it has done no good. i really hope they take me to court as my credit rating is unblemished and they don't have a leg to stand on.
to those of you saying that people should pay their debts and they won't get hassled, what planet are you from??? i am not the only person to be targeted like this, i know of many others who are being charged for debts that they do not owe. if you are one of the people being wrongly targeted, let them take you to court. they will not be able to prove anything as there is nothing to prove.
I was a victim of identity fraud, not only did the person who performed this litle act apply for a credit card in my name but gave the completely wrong date of birth but was given a credit card by barcley card they then ran up a debt of 1300.Wescot got in touch and advised me that i owed this and if i didnt pay would take me to court. As i was in the process of buying my dream home i decided to just pay the debt and be rid of it however they have since black listed my name so i couldnt get my house or any other form of credit despite receiving a letter of apology as they had done this they have still not removed my bad credit rating they are still sending letters to me saying i still owe money!!
WHAT A COMPANY THIS IS TURNING OUT TO BE !!!! i too am currently dealing with this company. They wrote to me a while ago about an old debt i wrote back explaining why it had not been paid only to receive a nasty phone call from one of their members of staff which left me extremley upset. I have written to them again and received several further unplesant phone calls which i now hang up on as ive been advised to do by a soilicitor. i have kept copies of all letters sent and received and i have taped two of the phone calls ive received roll on the day i get to court what a bunch of rotten people working under one roof you would honestly thonk you owed the monmey to them personally when they ring you .
I got a letter from an adress i lived at several years ago saying I owed £265. Sorry I forgot to mention that I was 12 years old at the time. I called to explain which i now almost regret. Since then I have ignored them as i read somewhere that its a premium rate number and im happy enough with what I have done. They have continued to send letters and several final warnings with one from a solicitors company. Im not too bothered about it because I know its not something I can be liable for but my partner is very worried that our adress will be black listed.
I have recently been contacted by Wescot for several home catalogue debts run up in my name - after phoning Wescot they advised me the debts were for an address I moved from 6 years ago - it transposed that my ex-landlady and friend had taken out catalogues in my name a couple of years after I moved out - she even made payments and then after she had built up the credit limit she did huge orders and moved out - leaving £6,000.00 owing - Wescot have not been helpful or sympathetic and I have to keep resending proof that I am not responsible, If they had researched properly they would have known that I have been registered and paying council tax elswhere for 6 years - I have been a home owner for 6 years too - to add to it the catalogues are both catalogues I still shop with and have held accounts with for 15 years and they allowed new accounts to be opened in my name at an address I had moved from. DOH!
Wescot are disorganised and overzealous - my advise is to deal directly with the catalogues if you do not owe the money and someone has defrauded in your name.
I deal with Wescot and have always found them to be reasonable and helpful. Indeed with most debt recovery companies if you actually talk to them and work with them you will find they can be reasonable you just have to meet them halfway. Although i actually owed the money they chased me for so i can't speak about them trying it on with others.

These guys (Wescot) are attempting to collect monies from a disputed account.
This isn't the problem. The problem is they have just sent a letter to me, but sent to my sisters home.
We (my sister and I) have different surnames, I have never used her address EVER. So my question is, how could they have got hold of her address ? and what rights do they have to send a 'Notice of Debt Collection' to my sister.
I am shaking with anger over this !!!
my so called best friend racked up a £500 over draft on my bank account when i was in hospital following a v.bad car crash which i NEVER had an over draft!!!!!!!!any way i got letters from wescot demanding the money i payed a bit back then lost my job therfor i couldnt pay any thing as i was living off my parents.i managed to get myself bk on my feet and agreed to pay wescot £61.61 for so many months to clear my debt.fair enough.all payments were going fine until nov 2006 wen i was told they never received a payment wen i knew i was as i made all payments by cheque. i checked with my NEW bank and it was confirmed that the cheque hadn't been cashed.i contacted wescot and told them i would send a cheque immiediatly for nov missing payment and for decembers,a cheque of £123.21.only to later receive a letter from the bank that i was overdrawn and being charged £30.i checked my statement and saw that wescot had not only cashed the recent cheque but also the MISSING cheque which lead to my bank account being overdrawn.(back to square one)i conntacted wescot and they still say they nerver received the first chequei got copys of said cheque and bank statements and posted, emailed and faxed copys to them.finally in february after many calls they say the missing cheque was paid into some other account of theres, and agreed to reimberse the missing cheak but would not pay my bank charge saying it was not there fault (cheak).i have rung them again this evening only to be told thay couldn't deal with it as my account is still in arrers by 5P!!! untill i pay the outstanding 5P they shall not refund my money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i think ive spent more in phone calls, letters etc. now i think is this hassle worth it for 60 odd quid????????????????
however, this means nothing to certain debt management companies, who have sent letters to my address demanding payment of imaginary debts. i have been beyond patient with these people, polite to the point of subservience, and it has done no good. i really hope they take me to court as my credit rating is unblemished and they don't have a leg to stand on.
to those of you saying that people should pay their debts and they won't get hassled, what planet are you from??? i am not the only person to be targeted like this, i know of many others who are being charged for debts that they do not owe. if you are one of the people being wrongly targeted, let them take you to court. they will not be able to prove anything as there is nothing to prove.

Wescot are disorganised and overzealous - my advise is to deal directly with the catalogues if you do not owe the money and someone has defrauded in your name.
