I have always been an Audi fan. They look great and I always thought they were reliable. However, in my experience, I no longer find them reliable. I have been let down to such an extent that I will never buy another, and I am afraid to say that I no longer trust my current car, a 2000 A6 Avant Multitronic (with full ASH). Faults have been numerous, mostly electronic, and usually fail without warning. The worst was the failure of the gearbox ECU which occured without warning at 70 mph on a motorway and left the car with no drive whatsoever, not even a 'limp home mode'. AUDI UK were totally uninterested and were unable to give a life expectancy to a part which is not servicable - so beware, "it could fail at any time". Cost to repair - £1300+. So much for German quality.
I bought a new A6 Avant in 2003 from a dealership in the West Country - believing that Audi was a quality product. I was disillusioned with Mercedes Benz after expensive repair and routine maintenance bills became the norm. However, Audi was much worse. Faults from day one included; broken alternator, defective steering wheel, ineffective climate control, and worst of all problems with the auto gear-box. Dealership was useless and told lies. Audi UK customer care were powerless. The car was a lemon, and the dealer was incapable of fixing the faults. In the end after a year of farce I threatened legal action at which point some big shot from Audi UK intervened and cut a deal. Since then I've been driving Lexus and Toyota vehicles which don't go wrong in the first place. I'd never buy an Audi ever again. The quality image is only a thin veneer. Underneath the components used are inferior to their Japanese and Korean counterparts.
bought brand new car in may 2003 which develpoed numerous faults that took too long to fix and resulted in repeated visits to showroom. staff were rude. I had to continually phone and visit and ended up being laughed at by staff on the phone and in person. faults eventually fixed after 3/4 visits. on each visit a mix up always occurred with arranging a loan car resulting in me missing work and making wasted journeys to the dealer. more recently i developed a problem with my brakes and was told i would not be able to book my car in for over a week. AUDI in milton keynes labelled this shocking service. However this problem has now escalted as Audi MK are quoting me £600 to have the car fixed and will not do it under warranty. cust service never call me back and seem extremely uninterested in resolving the issue. so much for Audi's 'service x design = excellence' strapline.
