Fasthosts appear to deliberately cause obfuscation and confusion to prevent moving a domain away. We had sent them the transfer fax they requested over two weeks ago. We were told it would take up to 5 days to complete, and that they had the fax and everthing was in order. Two weeks later when chased they said they needed authentication information from the customer, so a utility bill was sent immediately. Once again we were told everything was in order and the domain would transfer the next day. Five days later (after the holiday weekend), Fasthosts still had not transferred the domain, and since it had now expired the customer had no email or services for 4 days! Fasthosts were now claiming that the transfer fax would take "up to 10 days" and that they did not recieve the utility bill email.
All that they appear to be trying to do is obfuscate matters, stand in the way, and give out false information which changes day by day. Ive been listening to this on-hold music now for two hours today trying to get this sorted out.
So the customer has lost money (through no email etc) and we have lost around a days work - thanks to Fasthosts incompetence and deliberate provarication.
Please never ever use Fasthosts hosting services if at all possible.
I must admit that I have been with Fasthosts now for 5 years and have never had any problems. I have 3 hosting accounts, 1 reseller account and 4 dedicated servers all without problems.
I think you will find that if you read the terms and conditions, and all of the information on their website you will find all information in there. I too have had 1 or 2 sites suspended for server usage, however both times was when my customers uploaded poorly written scripts even when 'expert coders' had written the code. On a shared platform that script will cause issues for all of the other customers on the server so I am glad they stop these sites, or it would stop my correctly written sites from working as well.
My advice is use commom sense, and realise that 1) shared platforms have limitations and 2) terms and conditions are there for a reson.
This company should not be trusted with any business critical systems. They once closed our account because they thought it violated the acceptable use policy because apparently the application took up 90% of server CPU resources. This was non-sense, there was no evidence and they couldn't provide any techincal details.
Anyway, they took the system down for 5 days and lectured us about acceptable use. We now have a dedicated server with a professional company called Donhost. No problems so far!
After signing up for their 'Risk-Free 30 Day Trial', the advertising suggested a MySQL database was included. I was also told this by the sales person on the phone upon opening.
It was not, so I added this to my 'Risk-Free Trial'. It didn't work properly as needed, so I requested a refund under their 'Risk Free, Money back guarantee'.
No problem, but they wouldn't refund for the MySQL Database saying it wasn't part of the trial.
Their advertising didn't state it, and after reading several other negative posts on the net, I should have realised.
I contacted my credit card company who recorded a 'disputed transation', and I had to wait 60 days for it to go through, giving Fasthosts time to respond.
They didn't and I got my money back at last. Not really a '30 Day risk-free trial" in my or anyone else's eyes that has since read the smallprint!
After a couple of months with this webhost i tried to close my account. reasons being there ftp is pathetic so updating your site is hit and miss, techincal guys haven't got a clue what they are on about...AND there accountsbilling department must be staffed by %£"&* idiots. anyway i have been trying to close my account now for 4 months, no joy. i did manage to get an email telling me to mail my details and the details of my siteaccount so that they could close it, however that was 3 months ago and they are still trying to bill me monthly. ok i have only mailed them 7 times regarding closing the account.... is this not enough?
