Comments:

Back in 2005, MBNA added a default of over £5000 on my credit file. I have never had any dealings with MBNA but it took till 2007 for the ICO to confirm this had to be removed. I recently was refused credit and found that this default is still on my credit file. I have contacted MBNA but they are not answering. I cannot find any organisation able to stop incorrect data being left on my credit file.

AKA Virgin Money. I lost my Virgin credit card and called for a new one to be issued. I was issued a new card with payment protection that I never asked for. In my opinion, payment protection is a complete waste of money and I always say no, despite being heavily pressured into it. When I got my new card from Virgin, they had gone ahead and signed me up for the payment protection, without my authorisation. This was not the first time they had bullied me into the insurance policy. When I first applied for my credit card, I quite clearly stated that I did not want the payment protection. However, each month for the next 18 months, I would get calls trying to sell me the policy. I have said on numerous occasions, that I do not want the protection policy, it’s my right to say no, but they still feel the need to try and bully me into it. How many times do I have to say NO before they listen? I am now really annoyed with them and once my balance is paid off I am cancelling my account.

Nasty new pressure sales technique to watch out for at Moorway service areas and similar places where they try to catch passers-by.
They will tell you that you just need to fill out a form to send for more information without obligation. In fact it is a full credit card application which, even if unsuccesful, gets you on loads of mailing lists.
I nearly fell for this at Oxford Services on the M40. A woman was selling the new National Trust card. Woke up at the last minute though!
