Having had a close shave with Kitchens of Oldham (don't even think of dealing with them, nor paying them anything if you are told they are charging you for cancelling any deposit!) we got to EKC and were generally pleased. The first rep was not able to offer us what we wanted but a really nice senior manager (now not with the company) offered us cheap units following a hold-up in a major contract they were in the middle of.
He worked hard to get us the best deal, he chased up the company when they reneged on their 'within the next fortnight' promise for fitting and was a thoroughly good bloke. As I said, he no longer works for them but I don't know why.
The problems arose because of the non-delivery of a door which was not the fault of the fitters, who had been first class. The difficulty has been communicating with the firm through a series of unanswered phone calls and conversations with people who've evidently done nothing at all about the problems. They have passed me from pillar to post and not been at all helpful; after the umpteenth call I eventually got the door but of course nothing to fit it to the unit and it's not a job for a DIY-er. The kitchen should have been finished in August. It's now December and there's no sign of the whole thing being finished before the new year.
I'm not damning them completely but they do seem to be useless at getting problems sorted efficiently.
As for the kitchen, it's great and the fitting was otherwise faultless.
I had a nice young man come around to give me a quote. While there he called his manager to ask how quickly it could be delivered. The manager said two weeks. WHen I found out it would be more like 3 1/2 - 4 weeks, I cancelled. They refuse to reimburse the deposit and refuse they said two weeks. The guy who came to my house says the manager told him two weeks, but he is scared to loose his job and has not responded to me when I asked him to put it is writing. Basically, once they have your money they will say what they think you want to hear and then refuse they said it. I found them at the Ideal Home Show. I have told them about it and they are investigating. If any of you found them there, tell the Ideal home show people, hope to get them kicked off the show.
I found their installers pretty good, and reliable. However the company itself is terrible. They originally delivered the incorrect door handles. Then delivered incorrect door handles again in time for the fitters. Then posted the incorrect door handles to me another 3 times!!!!
They do not answer their phone, or return calls. When I have managed to get hold of someone at the company, they are completely disinterested, and tend to stuff things up anyway.
it is now around 6 months, and my Kitchen is still incomplete.
Do not do business with them. They have a good product, but it is not worth the stress trying to get it installed.
18 months ago we agreed to have our small kitchen re-fitted bt E.K.C,WHAT A MISTAKE,this is a very, very long story that still has not been resolved.I could go on all night but to be brief,we have had the kitchen fitted 3 times to date, once by cowboy norman, the 2nd time by two non-corgi registered Kosovans that couldn't speak english, and a gas leak (which led to the gas hob bieng condemned by Britsh Gas)the third fit,by the "top fitter" was also crap.We reported Les and EKC to trading standards who managed to get them to agree £700 compensation and the 4th re-fit.That was 6 months ago and we are now taking them to court.Be warned, once they have your money they do not give a monkeys about you or your crap cardboard kitchen,If we could afford to,we would rip out this joke of a kitchen and dump it on thier doorstep.
We used the Oldham Branch & should have realised it was dodgy when the salesman arrived at 6.15pm & didn't /wouldn't leave until 11.30pm!! Before they got our money they were very receptive as soon as they had it they didn't give a sh%t that the kitchen was fitted by a pair of clueless eejits. To cut a v long story short, we had 2 leaks, the cupboards are all uneven the side panels looked like they had been taken from an old kitchen, there was a hole under the cupboard all of the insides were scratched. i could go on. It took from July to December to get it rectified with god knows how many calls & 3 surveyors coming out, in the end we had to give up because the stress of it was making us ill. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY THEY RIP YOU OFF!!!!
update: The cupboard was eventually finished but still with a lack of care which I had to finish.
During this time the installations manager Crawley had promised on 4 occasions, a refund, twice when in my home, and twice on the phone and when head office sent me a letter concerning the refund it stated the manager refutes that he offered refunds, and this is just par for course for this company, as well as shoddy, they are liars and cheats, and if he, or any of them read this, SUE ME and we will see who's tellin the truth.
This may have been a one unfortunate situation but, read all their praises on the website and none of it came close, as to our small, 5 foot sq fireplace we asked to them to do a simple task in keeping with the rest of the kitchen....and the finished product, a child with a carpenters box would have made a better job. DO NOT TAKE A CHANCE WITH THE CRAWLEY BRANCH.
