I totally agree with the comments from Sigma, if Barrington/Chestnut House (or what ever they are calling themselves) never had any complaints why do they keep getting closed by the government? The DTI respond to customer complaints logged with Trading Standards, and they need an awful lot of complaints before they go to the high court and close companies in the public interest (as Barrington House/Hamilton Forbes were).
If comments on this website are from bitter ex employees - so what! We are all perfectly entitled to voice our opinions, if the owner hadn't done so many evil things during his time as our boss then we wouldn't be exposing him for the vile parasite he is. He should ask himself why so many are bitter, wonder if he's ever heard of the expression 'what come around goes around'? He’s the worst of all in the industry, he should stop trying to reflect his wrong doings onto other charity publishers and take a good look in the mirror (both types!).
Oh this is rich...
So now because you couldnt get the comments removed with half-baked legal threats, youve resorted to pretending to be a concerned members of the public?
Lets see:
'it seems as though the majority of the 'comments' posted on this site are that of people who are now/or have previously worked in the industry??'
More qualified to speak that people who haven't dont you think.
'I just cant help but wonder if it is a total change in morals or it's just plain old bitterness?'
Wrong. Left on good terms actually. Some of us do have morals, unlike tea-leafs like your good self. And even if myself and others were bitter, are you saying that what we say isnt true? Despite all the websites and big features in National newspapers?
'Did you not (at one point) make money from this or a similar thing yourself?'
I was paid to work there yes. I didnt take money from people directly and got out when I couldnt deal with it and found a much more fulfilling position where I could work with a clear conscience.
'that i am certain the charity involved is more then appreciative of the money they receive from this company and to them it is a great support'
DO YOU THINK THEY WOULD BE AS APPRECIATIVE IF THEY KNEW WHAT A SMALL PERCENTAGE OF THE TOTAL MONEY MADE THAT WAS? DO YOU THINK THEY WOULD BE AS APPRECIATIVE IF THEY KNEW THOUSANDS OF BUSINESS OWNERS WERE PAYING FOR A MORE-OR-LESS NON-EXISTANT PRODUCT? You're attempts at justification and reasoning as flawed at best.
'and a lot more than just a drop in the ocean to them'
And to your own bank balance I suspect
'after all it's support they were not getting before, is it not?'
I think they would prefer NOT to take money from such people using such means if they could help it. What a abhorrent justification for taking money from people in this manner
'I didn’t hear a complaint during the time I was with the company,'
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Ooh-ho-ho, thats funny that is. No complaints? Oh yeah sure. Perhaps you weren't the one answering to the angry customers and didnt have to hear them.
'I am also of the 'opinion' that there are a lot more companies out there who really should be under the microscope and closer scrutiny'
YOU'RE ALL AS BAD AS EACH OTHER!
'if the charity was not happy I am sure they would voice their 'opinions''
Im sure they will. Just like the Children's Research Fund did when your activities were pointed out to you.
Well this is a new low for the senior people of Barrington House/Hamilton Forbes/Chestnut House - posing as concerned citizens so they can deflect blame and attention away from their little enterprise. Yeah, nice try. Give my regards to the lads at the Mirror for me....
OK, I have been reading the comments and 'opinions' on this company and this is all strictly my 'opinion' it seems as though the majority of the 'comments' posted on this site are that of people who are now/or have previously worked in the industry?? I just cant help but wonder if it is a total change in morals or it's just plain old bitterness? Did you not (at one point) make money from this or a similar thing yourself? (just a question) I personally do not work in the 'industry' anymore, but, I can say from a qualified 'point of view' that i am certain the charity involved is more then appreciative of the money they receive from this company and to them it is a great support and a lot more than just a drop in the ocean to them, after all it's support they were not getting before, is it not? Plus the people it is helping must be extremely grateful of chestnut house'contribution wouldn't you agree?? I am also of the 'opinion' that there are a lot more companies out there who really should be under the microscope and closer scrutiny, if the charity was not happy I am sure they would voice their 'opinions'.- Bunny
I am sorry to say that i worked for Barrington House for a few months a few years back (Barrington House). I left because I was horrified by the stories and the amount of money being made by the top dogs. They were producing the wall planners but as far as I could see they were only distributed to those companies who paid to advertise on them- so say there were 20 ads on one wallplanner- those 20 companies would receive them, and they were producing thousands of unique ones- producing them on their macs- loads of ads a day per 'graphic designer'. then just a big sales floor of people ringing companies to drum up 'business' for minimal amounts going to charity donations from what I could see. If you are a business and want to sponsor a charity do it properly- or your ad will go nowhere and your money into the pockets of people who dont deserve it. Bad news all round.
I have been doing a little bit of research today as i am totally disgused and fed up with the following company ...Vardis...and Crown Dept Recovery... because of their bulling tactics!
Barrington House PC (Andrew Lownsborough worked for this company) now operating as Hamilton Forbes Ltd, Re: advertisment and publications on behalf of The Childrens Research Fund also the Foresters Fund for Children Appeal
....VARDIS....is a company owned by Andrew Lownsborough. Andrew Lownsborough has liquidated 2 companies Vardis GB Limited and Vardis UK limited Co dissolved in the last 7 years to avoid paying tax and depts on the money he has collected from charity publications.
if you do receive an invoice from VARDIS i urge you not to check out these facts and then ask yourself a question.
Are you happy lining the pockets any company who lives of the backs of charity?
Personally we have received many threats over the phone, for payment and court proceedings against us for advertising we have not asked for or agreed to! I have contacted The office of Fair Trading and the Charities Commission also Trading Standards.
We did not sign a contract or agree to any works or publications with this company.
Please STAY WELL CLEAR OF ANY DEALINGS WITH 'VARDIS' as for 'Crown Dept Recovery' they are not even registered but owned by Andrew Lownsborogh...
Let them try and take us to court!!!
if they carry on and even just threatened 10 small business in every town then they must be making a mint at £581 + recovery charge(crown dept recovery)£45 a time!
Hamilton Forbes have contacted me countless times and claim i owe them money. they have passed my information to Yellow partnership, Strawberry educational, Interlock. All claim the same thing
Now operating as Hamilton Forbes Ltd & are very persistant on calling you up for funds towards children's research charity in return for advertising space on a non appearing wall planner!! Do as I do let them call you up on a mobile & leave them talking to themselves while you continue working. That way you bleed them a little each time.
Been contacted hundreds of times by this company. I was quoted distribution figures of 50,000 yearplanners but why has no-one ever seen one? The sales staff are on a % ranging from 25 - 35%. Owned by Pete Lyons but not on paper. Apparently he drives a top of the range Merc and has just gone into liquidation so as he can set up as a new company, namely Hamilton Forbes Ltd. Same contract with Children's Research Fund but they have avoided tax and outstanding debts - AGAIN! They did the same thing a few yrs back in Ormskirk, W.lancs. Complete sharks giving very little of their profits to the charity.

Both names crop up here, so it will be interesting to see what the Charity Commission people do:

Not so apparently. This company now seems to be trading as Hamilton Forbes. I'm not saying their practises are the same, but BE WARNED....
