"CHANNEL SHOPPED
THREE bosses of collapsed TV shopping channel Auctionworld have been summoned to appear at a magistrates court to face charges of misleading buyers over prices.
Hertfordshire Trading Standards have been probing the broadcaster, which went bust last year with debts it could not pay of £20million.
That figure includes £9m owed to shoppers.
Now Bentley-driving managing director, George Spitaliotis, 36, right, operations director, Stephen Sancaster, 43, and company lawyer Nigel Rowley, 41, must each account for 52 occasions when it is alleged the channel broke the Consumer Protection Act.
The first hearing will be at East Hertfordshire Magistrates on July 29."
managed to find ibuy's internet site (finally) have e-mailed them and told them to stop treating the general public like sub human morons may i suggest that everyone does the same. these companies must not be allowed to get away with conning us then just change their name and start again.
Here we go again[WARNING-WARNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!]IBUY channal on sky.How abount £60 deliver charge for garden grap. Please look same old Auction world presenters. Please email and phone all your frends. There really should be laws to stop this .get hold of your M.P's lets put a stop to this once and for all for the sake of the british peaple
I really can't understand why most people on other websites won't believe that ibuy has everything to do with AW/CI
Andy Sheldon - Head of On Air at AW - now running ibuy
Tim Cochran - Company Director at AW - now running ibuy
Sandy Sandcaster - Company Director and Georges partner at AW - now running ibuy
Simon Stedman - Customer Services manager at AW - now running ibuy
Most of the production staff at AW - now working for ibuy
Most of the floor staff at AW - now working at ibuy
Studio 3 at Teddington used to house AW - now houses ibuy
2nd floor of Teddington used to be production offices for AW - now production offices of ibuy.
Teddington Warehouse of AW - now warehouse of ibuy
How much more proof do they want?
There is already a post somewhere on another website saying ibuy's customer services are not answering - that's just the beginning.
I would like to piont out to the many customers, that were left high and dry by Auction-world that ntl are useing the same sky channal666 plus imploying some of there presenters ntl are looking into this.I would like to say {if] IF the presenters new of what was going on at Auction-world WHY!!!! have thay been given another prsenters job.NTL please rethink what you are doing.40,000 peaple were left out of pocket to the tune of over £5millon
Auctionworld I-buy promises much. In addition to Andy Sheldon the company's senior management team includes sevreal other ex-Auctionworld directors. With unnatural modesty they have been keeping in the shadows but we think it's time they came out into the light. Step forward Merchandising Director Tim Cochrane - George Spit's right-hand man with direct responsibility for "managing" auctions. Hello Operations Director Alexander "Sandy" Sancaster, founding director and AW major shareholder, a key organiser and shaper of events at Auctionworld (you might think he would be in a good position to answer questions about the customers' missing millions - well it's worth a try anyway). And hello Peter Garriock - Auctionworld IT director - the guy who made all the computers and software run for the company that closed down owing £15million or more.
With this crew re-united in management you could say that the future of I-Buy is assured.
I just wanted to point something out to those many people who wanted the Vivitar DVR-390H, 20GB Multi-media player/recorder and Camera.
eBay has three sellers - one with two separate auctions with 19 New units in total available at the Buy Now price of £219 (which is the rough price Auctionworld were selling them for up till there demise).
This sellers auctions are scheduled to close no later than 7 May 2005 but obviously will finish sooner if all units get sold before that date.
The aforementioned seller offers a New 1 year guarantee and eBay offer a free Up to £500 Coverage for buyers who fear being ripped off again (re: Auctionworld).
I would be interested if my paste here proves to be helpful or beneficial to anyone previously affected by Auctionworld (who received a faulty Multi-media or failed to receive one at all) so that I can feel that I have helped someone to find A happy ending.
Good luck and best of wishes to you all,
PrinceCharmingofTorquay.
Re Prince charming's comment. Yes I-Buy run out of Teddington Studios by ex-Auctionworld staff and management. The boss is Andy Sheldon. Andy is a former AW presenter he was also the channel's Head of Production, i.e. responsible for all aspects of the show as it was seen by viewers. Andy was paid extremely handsomely by George Spitialotis in this vitally important role and naturally the pair were often seen together. Poor Andy was there right to the end and one can only imagine his surprise when he learned the truth about the company where he had been a senior manager for over two years.
i moved to north london from portsmouth, last june and was skint after just finishing university so went to brook street agency and took the first job that came along, which unfortantly happened to be auction world.
this company is absolute bollocks, all the staff are from agencies and new staff arrive daily, so no one knows what they are doing, or really cares, as no-one is interested in doing it for a carerr, there just doing it till something better comes along.
the job was crap, no one there was friendly at all, the supervisior was a leary young girl who had a click of other mates who worked there, and you could all tell that there was no chance they'd ever bother talk to you.
there was also a real ugly fat girl beast who worked there who tried to intimidate you with her fat slitty eyes, but was just laughable, if looks culd kill!!!!! there was also a miseable old bitch with a face like a slapped arse who sat in the corner, and was far too good, to talk to you on a fag break. the job was terrible, the staff looked like a bunch of dickheads, apart froma couple of people, who sat next to me and helped and were actually nice. but the job was crap i went in, in the morning, had about 3 hours training and then they put me on the phones to the customers, in the afternoon, where i did not have a clue what to do!!!! its absolute crap, the customers were so rude, tis unbelievable, on my first day i was called a slag, and told to f**k off everyday! even tho i sympathise with the customers, and would of gone f**king mad if i was in that situation, there was no need to be rude to the poor customer sevrice staff, its not there fault, there just trying to make a bit of cash and earn a living like everyone else. and to be fair, there was always staff coming in at night as soon as the day staff went.
the company was crap, there was a constant delay on the refunds, the accounts department only had a certain amount of money for each month and after that were not allowed to issue anymore refunds and were about three months behind anyway.
I wanted to bring to everyones attention the new TV shopping channel... iBuy (Sky channel 631 and 632).
I believe it started at 9am on Wednesday or Thursday morning - 14th or 15th April 2005 - and is fronted by ex-presenters of Bid-up.tv (one or two of which went on to work for Auction-world.tv).
The channel has nothing new to offer really as it shares a similar format to that of past and present auction channels.
As stated by a recent post, these channels use premium rate phone numbers - between 60p to a pound per bid - and if my memory of my Business Studies course serves me correctly, half of the cost of the calls goes to their telephone network supplier and the other half is pocketed by the shopping/auction channel.
This on top of the already steep Postage and Packaging charges (iBuy regularly quote 8 pounds per delivery on very small to medium sized items) and the cost of your so-called bargain doesnt seem so cheap anymore.
Dont forget... when you bid or buy from TV channels,
(1) Dont be fooled by the presenter saying how cheap the item is when he quotes the main price, (2) Remember to add P&P to the price and then decide if it is still a bargain before making that call, and
(3) Do plenty of research wherever possible. If you know an item will be screened again, take the opportunity to look around and see if the price is as good as they say.
One last thing, I also read in a recent post that a number of ex-Auction-world staff were grouping together to form another shopping channel. I was wondering if the channel they are said to be forming is indeed iBuy? If anyone is able to do any digging around, please let us know on this board if iBuy is the one rumoured about.
All the best to anyone who might read this,
from PrinceCharmingofTorquay.
On Tuesday 19 April, at 7pm, BBC1 are broadcasting a programme called "King of Bling" . To quote the TV guide "This special Watchdog report charts the rise and fall of shopping channel Auctionworld and its managing director George Spitaliotis , who had debts of over £20million by the time it was closed down"
TV auction channels and similar channels such as Price Drop TV and those similar to Phone-World.TV are ALL a big rip off.
The goods are low quality substsndard junk
the guide prices are vastly exagerated
There are occasionally some good deals to be had
but only because the price if offset by the fact thousands of people are calling a premium rate number trying to buy a limited number of items
the huge profits from the premium rate number mean the company do not loose by offering the occasional good item at a reduced price
Before buying anything from any tv shopping channel
research the company and the products on the net
this way you will find genuine information regarding prices and quality and genuine comments from genuine people not simply comments from actors reading a script pretending to be happy customets
RIPPED OFF BIG TIME! Sent faulty items back have tracking numbers from Parcel Force, Shame on you 'Donald'who signed for them, doesn't this amount to theft? I have been everywhere contacted everyone, kept all literature.PKF have said no hope. DISGUSTED! I can't believe some of the presenters still have similar jobs,[will definitely be contacting NTL]I have no sympathy with accounts/customer services staff after what they put me through for months when I was trying to get a refund. They have ALL caused a lot of damage and stress I could badly do without, maybe one of them would like to contact me for a change and put some of this right, but I won't hold my breath!
hi all, i used to work for this company and thought that i should let you know that i have just found out that a large group of employers have set up there own buisness unfourtunalty not sure on the name but it is the same sort of thing so watch out for new shopping channels and internet sites, one good thing geoarge is not part of it so it might be ok.
We are also out of pocket due to AW. Just found out though that if you bought by credit card you are protected under section 75 of the consumer credit act 1974. Send a letter to your credit card company stating this and you should get a refund. Tell them that if they do not refund you that they are in breach of this contract and you will be contacting a solicitor to sue them for the money.
Good luck
Ive documented my own predicament and comments during the past two-three months and my situation and feelings have not altered or diminished. I would like to add though that the defensive comments left by ex-staff on 25/1/05 may have only hit true to the grafters and grunts (no offence intended) who kept their heads down and just got on with their jobs. As for the hierarchy - the money makers - their actions were inexcusable. As for the company growing "too big, too soon" and "the company hadnt enough money for the stock" that is a load of old bull. If you dont have the money to buy the stock then it cant be in your warehouse...If you dont have the stock in your warehouse, you cant fulfil a sale. How can you? This story will run and run but I hope someone out there (perhaps someone who reads this) with take up the challenge and take this Greek b*****d to court, and he goes down! I wonder what a few months behind metal bars instead of behind drinks bars would do to his credibilty, lol. All the best to you all, PrinceCharmingofTQY.
Further letter received from the Administrators today. Once and for all, unless you paid for your goods by credit card, THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO CHANCE OF YOU GETTING YOUR MONEY BACK OR RECEIVING ANY GOODS YOU HAVE ORDERED.
That's it. It's over.
re ex staff of AW
Im glad you all worked 12 hours a day to relieve the worry and suffering that customers have had to endure. Bloody Brill did you get overtime??. The respected personnel in the accounts department must have been crap cos they didnt manage to balance the books very well... or did they? I for one am now getting up in a morning, walking the dogs, having a cup of tea and sending at least one protest email to ntl as part of my daily routine. Cant tell you how good it feels. Everyone should try it
Re Ex Staff 25/01
Yes, Accounts, Operations and Customer Services(ha!), you were all bloody brill.
£14 million ripped off from 27,000 customers is pretty good going. Give yourselves a large pat on the back, guys, you were all bloody brill.
Re ex-staff 26/1/05
I read your comments today and have to say your comments say a lot about you with an attitude problem typical of most of the people who worked at AW.
And NO i wouldnt have done what those presenters did knowing what they knew im a better person than they are.
I see there are a few more preesenters working for NTL now, come on people give your feelings for these people in a email.
