I just wanted to put another side of the story to the blog.
My son purchased a car from Carcraft and after 3 months the valves inside the manifold broke. The additional warranty he took out said the manifold was covered but when he rang up to book the car in for the work he was told it wasn't covered as the warranty only covers the manifold and not any valves etc associated with it - problem is you can't just replace the valves - you need to replace the whole manifold as it's a sealed unit (circa £600 vat fitting). I rang up the technicians who said it wasn't covered and asked for an explanation - I was told "its technical and you wouldn't understand that's why we don't explain over the phone - you have to write in" - I translated this as "you're woman so no point in trying to explain".... so off I went searching the internet for other people who have had similar problems. Anyway to cut a long story short I found the telephone number of the Carcraft Customer Services Manager on a blog (not sure which one) and gave her a ring. She listened to what i had to say- did some investigation at her end and the outcome is they have paid for the replacement part, provided a courtesy car for the duration of the repairs and we've contributed a small amount to the labour costs. So all in all a good result. I would recommend anyone to contact the Customer Services Manager - I dealt with a lady called Linzi and also Sandra and both were very helpful , kept me informed of progress on the repair (delays in vauxhall supplying the part) .

Never purchase a car off CarCraft

I purchased a car at carcraft on 9th March ... as soon I walked in there I was confronted by an salesman with an aggressive sales technique saying "how much can you afford a month!" I expressed that I was a single parent living off benefits and my old car a volvo S40 (2litre) had failed the mot on several occasions and was just looking .... I saw a car and asked the salesman if the new car was the same on fuel ect and he said yes .... I purchased the car and then within 48 found it did 20mpg and cost over £400 a year in road tax .... VERY CLEARLY the salesman had lied to me just to get a sale.... I telephone the after sales only to be met with abuse .... I returned the car on 31st March and requested a full refun otherwise I would take them to court ... needless to say that is where I am at ...

I feel very violated as a customer and feel that I have had all my rights taken away.....

Never go to carcraft.

i and my pregnant wife Just recently bought a car from carcraft. had it now for 24hours. like most people i was talked into buying the NAC insurance. The salesman informed me that the car had been fully serviced , checked and was good to go. i spent about 4 hours in total with them. before the finance was processed i was asked to pay the deposit i had agreed to pay (£2000). this i thought was odd as they had not yet checked if i would be approved for credit. though i knew my credit rating was good.i was eventually given finance. during our discussions this finance agreement was based on an APR of 10.8%. after making us wait for ours , my wife was desperate to go as she was not feeling well. then the finance man came back with loads of forms to fill out. which i did. i picked the car up eventually at about 830pm.i was told to simply take the keys and go.

Over the next 24 hours i was shocked at several things. firstly there was no tax disc, the car had not been serviced for more than a year, no records of any work /service done to the car by carcraft, the APR on the finance was actually 22%. did not drive the car during the next day, but drove it in the evening when i got back from work. Started having concerns about the brake , it seemed weak and unresponsive sometimes. Now iam very concerned. I am going to speak to carcraft today to ascertain what they have to say for themselves.

Ultimately i blame myself. i should have checked out carcraft much better and not go on the assumption that they are very big and have many customers and so must be good. i should have investigated the asking price before buying( which was so obviously high ), should have had a better idea of the exchange value of my old car ( which they said was £1000), should have looked at the documents clearly before signing. believe me all , i feel like a plunker right now. most of you may agree. Their salesmen are very good.

However this is a very unethical company. How could they allow me to drive away with a car with no tax disc , obviously not been serviced and dangerous. They deceived me on the APR of the loan and on the true cost of the additional insurances taken.

I am less than 48 hours into my contract . can i get out of this . i plan to ask for this aggreement to be cancelled as the car is defective, i was mis-led by the sales team and i do not trust them anymore. the contract and hp documents with me are not signed by me. i don't know if it is normal to give customers unsigned copies of contract agreements and they keep the other. i was given so many documents to sign towards the end of my time there that i am not sure if i actually signed the contract agreement.

Really wish i had discovered this website before my purchase.

can anyone help or advice?. what are my options at this point ?.
can i get out of this?

I bought my car 7mnths ago from carcraft it was a 5 door focus on a 08 plate the reason for going to car craft was that me and my partner had just had a baby and the car we had was a 3 door adn it was just becoming a pain getting the car seat in and out every day so after looking round for 15mins or so the salesmen came over and started to ask what sort of car was we after so we explained we wanted a 5 door car preferble a hatch back and our budget was £200 a month.

so after spotting this focus and test driving it we agreed to buy the car and after being in the place for 6 hours with a new born we just wanted to get out the place and it wasnt till we got home and i read the contract we realised that we had to pay £313 a mnth and the nac isnt worth the paper its written on im unable to afford the monthly direct debit iv been intouch with fianace company and they have told me to return the car and pay the diffrence im unable to return the car beacause i need a car for work is there any one that can help please.

i purchased a car in nov 07 from carcraft and i wish i never did when i arrived i had seen a peugoet 106 i thought ideal for my 1st car.
i took for a test drive with the salesman and i told him that the hand brake was loose and told me nothing was wrong.
i agreed to go ahead and i told him i wanted to go for a finance agreement and my limit was £100 a month but i had a £500 deposit, the salesman said i did not need a deposit so i said fine i had been sitting for nearly 5 hours and the finance came through for £167 a month and that i got a nac warranty that automatically comes with it i thought fine lets go ahead so i drove away after waiting nearly 7 hours for the car,
a few weeks later my agreement started to come through and i have been charged nearly £1500 pound for my warranty and apr that is unbelievable and up front charges for going through a finance agreement all in all the cost of my car was nearly £5000 when the price in the car was £3300,
two days later i had to do a hill start well with me just passing test i used the hand brake i had the hand brake basically on the last notch and the car started rolling down the hill which could have caused a accident. i lost the car for a 1/2 day for getting the handbrake tightened.

i got my car serviced in feb as my 3months warranty had ran out with carcraft to kick my nac warranty in. the car came back and it had slight movement in the near side ball joint and they said my warranty would cover it, so i contacted nac as no garages had a nac account and they told me to take to carcraft to have a investigation, so i booked it in to have the investigation done and was told it was not covered due to wear and tear well i have bought a 02 reg car, i was angry with them because they were trying to tell me i had done it in the whole 4 month i had the car, they gave me a quote for the work at 79.99 but i told then not to go ahead with the work.
i collected the car that night and i could hear a grinding noise on the brakes but i didnt think anything of it.
the next morning i was driving to work and had to stop as it was a closed junction and my brakes failed and i went shooting out, i was lucky there was nothing coming, then the next day i was reversing the car and my brakes locked on, i have a friend who is mechanic and when he look the back brake shoe and come in half and jammed, i found it all a bit weird that my brakes were 100% until they got there hands on it. i got my ball joint done and the anti roll bar bracket snapped due to rust, then a few months later my wheel bearing went, then my exhaust now my clutch has gone and the mechanic has had to keep it for two days as the car will not go back together, this car has cost me a absolute fortune, the warranty is a waste a space, i am hoping someone can direct me to get help in trying to get some done about car craft, as i know cars do have wear and tear problems but all this in a year and half they must be having a laugh if anyone can help pls contact me on toni06-07@hotmail.com

Everything about Carcraft is a fake. They should take the car back and give me back my money. I have had to get a solicitor and consumer direct has passed my complaint to trading standards. If anyone else is experiencing this please e-mail me at margaretjanthony@hotmail.com.

I was had big time, and am trying to get the nac cover refunded, Im going to try the small claims court next...
As nac isnt registered as a proper company trading standards are powerless. All complaints regarding nac should go to the financial ombudsmen on the line of their blatent mis selling of these useless guarantees, the creature that handled the finance on my visit to carshaft rochdale told me i had to have the nac cover or finance would not get accepted and the usual great leap in the apr etc etc .....anyone had any success reclaiming in county courts

CarCraft are an extremely poor company to deal with. I paid 17,200 pounds for a car from CarCraft Lakeside which has an electrical problem with the airbag system. The car has been in to be looked at 4 times to try to resolve the problem which reoccurs after a month or so. The last time it was repaired it lasted over the 3 months period so I have been told even though it is a reoccurring problem I need to claim on my warranty. When I called to claim on the NAC’s CarCraft warranty they say they don't cover airbag faults. Carland have blatantly sold me a faulty car and want to wash there hands of me now refusing to look at the problem, I have had the car less than 9 month and done less than 3000 miles in it because of the problems.

I would recommend you steer clear of CarCraft or if you do purchase a car from these cowboys take a solicitor and a mechanic with you when you bye.

 sickofcarland at 18th Feb 2009, 05:40PM
please please can you help me i am trying to collect as much information as possible regarding carcraft's sales techniques for example,
how many hours did the whole buying process take?
are you paying more than you stated you could afford?
is the interest rate higher than you expected it to be?
did you feel mislead in any way when making a puchase?
all this is so that i can prove to the office of fair trading that my daughters case is not an isolated one she is £25,000 in debt after a visit to carcraft.
so please if there is anyone out there who can help me by sharing their carcraft buying experience with me i would be very greatful.
i can be contacted at tds11@btinternet.com

I bought my car from carcraft 4 months ago. I should have realised from the beginning that they were going to be a nighmare as it took my 30 minutes to pick a car and 6 hours for them to process the paperwork. I was in the reception for this time with my 1 year old baby (luckily i had brought food!!!!). Initially, the finance was going to be £80 per month, but by the time I had finished with the finance man it was £161 per month!. I had already paid my £1500 deposit by then and waited so long I couldnt be bothered to argue I just wanted to get out of there! There was no explanation of why it had gone up so much, I had to ask and the finance guy just mumbled through sone small print of an adminitration charge that I had to pay over the term! and could not pay up front. He then asked if I wanted to take out gap insurance at a one off payment of £250 which I declined, but the guy it took off my deposit anyway and signed it off to say I had agreed. I then had to sort this out over the phone which took over a week and all I got was a cheque back (I put it down as a deposit for a reason!!!) Within a month of having the car the aircon and readiator was not working, I rang and booked in for a repair which took over two weeks to get there and three days to get back. After 4 months the winscreen water squirter was not working for the front window and my driver side window was catching and not closing so I rang carcraft again and was told by customer services that this was out of their guarantee and to call NAC (the extended warranty!!!!!!!! what a joke!) they said this was carcrafts responsibility and to call their auto centre direct, which I did. They booked me in but said if this was wear and tear it was down to me (has anyone ever worn out their window washers within 4 months I would love to know!!!! im not in a particularly muddy area!!!). After this phone call I went out to my car and got in to take my daughter out and it wouldnt start (can you believe this as I had just called them!!!!) It was telling me that the immobiliser was at fault so I called carcraft from the car and was asked a series of questions such as how long had I had the car and where I lived?????? then was put on hold. The lady came back and said she couldnt help as it was over the three months guarantee and to call the customer services centre, which I did. They told me to call NAC as it was now with them, but as i told them NAC do not cover electonic faults and it was saying electronic immobiliser fault. This went on for a while so I was then told sorry this is out of the three months nothing they can do. So i am still waiting for the quote for the repair (in anticipation as you can imagine). So I have bought a car for the grand total of £5500 (only worth about £3000 privatly) and it has lasted four months. Thanks carcraft i look forward to doing business with you again........NOT!!!!!

Further to my complaint re Carcraft of Birtly, I wish readers to know that the Warranties sold by Carcraft on behalf of a firm called National Automotive Cover (NAC), who are in fact CC automotive Group Ltd, of Rochdale, better known to readers as CARCRAFT. NAC are NOT REGISTERED with Companies House as a company.

So, carcraft are selling warranties by mis-leading the consumer into thinking its another Company called NAC, when in fact they are selling THEIR OWN WARRANTIES because their cars are sub-standard.

 pa at 6th Aug 2008, 02:20PM
Bought car from this company based in Birtly. Said I could take car to any garage if repair needed.I accepted this as part of conditions of sale included in the price. The salesman did not tell me that this would be in the form of an extended warranty with NAC at an Additional cost of £45 per month for 4 years. Total cost in addition to price of car £2,160, which far excedds value of car.

Complaints to this dreadful firm resulted in neurotic replies from pre-menstrual females with penis envy. Because its not an insurance the FOS will not look at any complaint. The Trading Standards say no laws have been broken. The sale of my car and this warranty was in my oppinion knowingly dishonest, completed by witheld information by a salesperson who lied in order to obtain personal financial gain. Take my advice - never buy anything from Carcraft they decieve their customers, and once you have signed on the dotted line - they don't want to know you. Buy from non-neurotic, more honest dealers.

Ok, the other day my mum and dad went to look at a new car and we found we we rally really loved so we put down £100 pounds deposit and then they said we can't have the car so every day from when they said you can't have a car we have been phoning them up to see where our money is so my mum and dad is really really angry. And when- ever my mum phones they hung up on her. And once my Uncle brought a car from them and i think it spent the most of the time in a garage then on a road!!!!!! And they are a joke cos on the radio it says ' get a car with us and have a safe drive' now my Uncle's car kept on breaking down and they said we can't do anything about that when they could!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So i have figured something out never ever go to carcraft for a car go to mja they have good cars.

BAD BAD BAD BAD. We bought a Freelander for £10,000 (Later found out they were going for £6500 Private) OK... So lesson learned. We'd part ex'd our Picasso and got £3500 for it. (It was on their forecourt next week for £6500... OK.. So they are a business and there to make money.

Now for the real issues. 120 point check???. Our Freelander required a full service to uphold the Carcraft warranty so we splashed out and took it to Landrover. The report came back from Landrover that the vehicle was not road worthy and required £450 of repair to get it so. Carcraft paid for that so I was just pleased that we didn't have to pay the bill.

We took out their 3 year warranty for just under a grand. I read it and it stated that they would only cover up to £750 of the cost of any repair. I was about to walk out of the door because, as I explained to the sales guy, if the head gasket goes it's going to cost me a lot more than that. The sales guy went on to assure me that the £750 bit was per part repaired. I.E. If your head gasket goes it would cover each part of the engine that was damaged as long as each part didn't exceed £750.

On the strength of this we went ahead. We were in there for 9 LONG hours. We were told we were getting £2000 cash back. Realized two months down the line that they had just added £2000 to the back end of the loan in an unobvious cleaver way.

8 Months down the line, head gasket went. Took it straight to Landrover as I have this fantastic warranty that would cover everything. Landrover called me back a day later to tell me that the cost of the repair was just over £2500 and Carcraft would cover £750 of that cost. Getting worried now. I called Carcraft and spoke to the big boss(I think). He informed me that they would never had said anything other than they would only cover up to £750 of a total repair and that it was my word against his sales guy(When these sales are taking place they are in an enclosed room so no body else can here anything).

Anyway, £2000 3 weeks before Christmas. Thanks Carcraft. That was sure a year to remember. I was told by the guy who delivered my car back from Landrover that he see's at least two of these blown head gaskets per week and that I should get rid of the car asap because it could go at any time again.

I sold the car 2 weeks later and got £5500 for it. I am still paying the remaining £6500 I owe on the car to this day.

It only had 50K on the clock and a full Landrover history. I'm not blaming Carcraft for the inherent Head Gasket problem on the K series engine, but I am MAD at Carcraft for making me feel such a Fool. Yes... I feel so so stupid because I was, obviously, stitched up big time and fell for everything they told me.

I don't take comfort in learning that thousands of other Carcare customers are having the same such experiences now and in the past.

Carcraft is a good place to visit if your not sure what sort of car you want or you just want to browse but I would Highly recommend that if you do buy from there, take you own mechanic and use cash but before you do buy, check Autotrader. I GUARANTEE you will find the same car for at least £2000 less than Carcrafts price.

Many thank for listening to me.

Regards

Un-happy Carcraft (customer)

Is there anyone else out there who has dealt with carcraft and has told the salesperson the credit limit they could afford yet come away with paying a far greater amount than their original limit on a finance package or that the interest rate was far higher than expected.

If so i would like to hear from you as i have taken my daughter's case to the financial ombudsman on the grounds of irresponsible selling & lending (my 19 year old daughter has a £25,000 debt after buying a car from carcraft)
Your experience may help our case and others who are wrangling with carcraft let's fight carcraft together, if you can help please contact Tarnya at tds11@btinternet.com

I bouught a 53 plate Megane last week from Liverpool Carcraft, my new car has a computer that controls the car - this caught fire on saturday night and Dead locked me and my sister in the car whilst it filled with smoke! - car craft could not care less about it and told me not to go there with the car or they will call the police as it will disturb new sales... I have spoken to Watchdog regarding this and hired a solicitor (not that i can really afford it.) The other bad point is i asked them not to add the warrenty and payment protection but they said i had to have it before i leave but i can cancel it within 30 days!!!!! PLEASE ANYONE WHO HAS HAD BAD POINTS WITH CARCRAFT CALL WATCHDOG AS THEY WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!!! if you have had anything like this please e-mail me paulwhite0000@yahoo.co.uk - i'm just feeling alone here and at a compleate loss.

Thanks guys

Paul

It's not just bad finance deals, the warranty is not worth the paper it's written on. Anyone thinking on buying a car from Carcraft - DON'T. The cars are overpriced but with the inclusive warranty is looks OK. After sales service is abysmal but don't blame the Call Center agents, it's company policy. PLEASE, IF YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO IS THINKING OF VISITING CARCRAFT PLEASE ASK THEM TO LOOK AT SITES LIKE THIS FIRST - it could save them money and a whole lot of heartache.

 whydididoit at 6th Feb 2008, 10:21PM
my 19 year old daughter purchased a 3 year old vw beetle cabriolet from carcraft in may 2007 on finance package which carcraft arranged through black horse, the grand total for this package is a staggering £25,000.00 plus (yes that's correct £25,000.00 plus).
They allowed her this kind of finance on a work record that consists of one months employment in an ice cream kiosk (and a possible promotion that never happend) and four months as a part time sales assistant.
i call this completely irresponsible selling and lending.
i feel that yes my daughter was foolish but they preyed on her naievety and greed to have what she thought was a nice car.
They discouaged her from reading the finance agreement telling her just to sign it as there was nothing in it they hadn't told her, yet they'd neglected to tell her a £400 breakdown cover would end up costing hundreds and not what was quoted.
Nor that she'd find it hard to get insurance they gave her a weeks free insurance to allow her to drive the car away.
My daughter could never afford the car or the finance package that went with it, they truly saw her coming.
She is now on the verge of bancruptcy
thanks to again what i call irresponsibl selling and lending.
i'd be interested to know if there are any more parents out there whose children have fallen into this trap?
Please if someone you care for mention's going to carcraft please do all you can to stop them.
Because i'd hate for anyone else to go through the nightmare were going through.

I too was caught out by these people! After what seemed like hours waiting to arrange finance I then was taken around a pre planned set of cars, none of which was what I was ideally looking for but, in my stupidity,I agreed on a purchase. Thats when the fun started! I now know that I paid around £3000 more than I should have done. Within a week I experienced quite serious mechanical problems and had to take the car back to Carcraft on 3 occasions, each time they said that they had resolved the problems.Rubbish! I took the car to another garage and ended up paying over £500 to put it right! I know that the people at carcraft outrightly lied to me about the state of the car and, in turn, put my life at risk. I have since traded in the car, suffering negative equity in the process, but I did not feel i could go on driving it. My advice...don't get sucked into the glossy TV advertising as I did.....avoid at all costs!
