I do a lot of business with Gap, Inc. (Banana Republic especially) and opened a BR Credit Card, which like all Gap cards, are managed by GE Money.
I have never see a more disorganized company working with consumer credit in my life. Cards they claim to have sent me never arrive, their web site for account inquiry looks about 10 year old, closed accounts can't be removed, you can't contact them online, etc, etc.
It's quite a train wreck and reflects very poorly on the retailers since most customers don't realize the store itself is not managing things.
I assume GE Money must charge the least to retailers or offer a pretty good deal otherwise. Their services and presentation are very poor compared to others.
"Ge Money are a wonderful company and very fair to their customers. Most of you folk sitting there moaning about Ge are in debt due to your own very bad money management. When you buy stuff on credit, it is not yours. It needs paying for, you borrowed from somewhere to get that stuff. Now they want their money back you start complaining, they did not complain when they gave you credit. Why not apply for work as a collector as GE are recruiting at the moment. They have cushy offices with lovely hardworking people and an excellent starting salary."
FAIR TO THEIR CUSTOMERS??!! Yes, maybe. But only during the good times. As soon as the chips are down, they stab you in the back. I tried everything to resolve debts with them and they decided to play awkward. Needless to say, the next step was bankruptcy...and if they don't get their debt settled, it won't be me losing sleep! Things could have been so different!!
Hi Folks, this my first visit here, and I find it very interesting the comments, I have a dispute with GE and have done for the past 4 years, they used to phone on a regular basis, at first I would explain the reasons for the dispute and at the end gave the name and addres of my solicitor. They have not contacted him, and continued with the calls some very nice others aggressive, but I found the best way was to keep calm and stick to the facts. I am hoping that they will raise court action, as I know they are in the wrong and Iam convinced they know this also, otherwise I am sure I would have been in court by now. Sorry for being so long winded, but it would take for ever to go over all the problems I have had with GE, and all it would have taken, was 5 minutes with someone with a bit of common sense, and everything could have been resolved, so yes Iam one of those who would say to anyone, don't have any dealings with this mob whatsoever. The calls have stopped now, and a bad credit outfit have taken over, they informed me that they have bought the debt from GE, has anyone heard of this kind of dealings. I would say they have made a bad purchase
I have tried:

Greedy, shameless, ignorant, very happy with other people’s unfortunate situation, using bed financial times to rob people, rude costumer service!!! To be avoided at all cost.
If you look closer the good feedback's posted only by their employees.
If anyone knows any other site to leave a bad feedback fo GE Money, please let me know.
I think Anthonyh is missing the point. Circumstances do change yes, and you can lose your job very quickly, leaving you with debts that are unpayable. How can someone be expected to pay £thousands off a loan on Jobseekers Allowance?
GE Money have just increase my loan repaymenty by a further 1.95% to take it to over 13% when the base rate has reduced to the lowest it has been for decades. Are GE Money profiteering out of our inability to secure credit from alternative means. I am very disappointed and suggest we write to our MP's to make sure we have some leverage with immoral companies like GE Moaney. Shame on you GE Money.
The people who complain about mortgage and loan companies are generally naive and in some cases, stupid. You borrow money, you don't pay it back and then you want us to feel sympathy. I accept there are circumstances when it cannot be helped but if you lose your job it doesn't matter, you have to pay your debts.I am sure when you took the loan out that GE were wonderful then eh? Hypocrite.
Hi everyone - this blag was a fair while ago, but I have just joined this site, and am taking a chance that someone might visit!
I have my mortgage with GE money, and, last year, my work circumstances changed unexpectedly and dramatically - my income was significantly lowered. I fell behind with my mortgage.
I contacted GE, and the responses I got varied enormously, from supportive to negative and aggressive, dependent upon the person I spoke to.
Alway ask to speak to a senior member of staff, and make a note of their name, as they are the most well informed. I got sick of speaking to kids young enough to be my offspring, who evidently had no idea of how to speak to people in a polite manner.
They had the same attitude as some of the contributors to this site, which, ultimately is not only insulting, but also it is not going to motivate people to go 'the extra mile' to pay off their arrears.
I took the 'extra mile' option, because I was able to. Others may find it more difficult- each case should be judged on its' own merit. People get sick, made redundant, get divorced, or widowed. Tarring all with the same brush will decrease the amount of debt recovery. Everybody's circumstances are unique, from the credit junkie, who doesn't see why they should repay, to the person who gets two extra part time jobs to get rid of the debt. There are grey areas in between those extremes, of course.
Moreover, you cannot make judgements about a person's ability to clear arrears by the fact that they are there in the first place, and the first thing I would like to say to the judgemental (especially those who work for GE), is this:
One day, that person might win the lottery, get a well paid job, or marry and have two incomes. When the arrears are paid off, and they are financially empowered - they won't be having anything to do with the likes of you. And (GE employees), you never know whether your job at GE is safe right now - then where will the boot be? On an alternative foot! Live by your words at your peril!
Furthermore - to those who are behind, and able bodied - it is not easy. Whether you are the architect of your disaster, or not, find a way of making extra money, to pay things off as quickly as you can. Don't be too fussy about what you do, it is a means to an end, and it is temporary. You will feel good about having a solution, rather than having the problem. And you will eventually be rid of the stigma created by the intolerant and ignorant.
To those who are not able bodied - use the charitable trusts, to sort your finances out, and if you come under pressure from the finance companies, seek advice about harassment. If there is nothing you can do legally, to prevent them doing this, start a blag, get a group of you together - and hassle the companies which do this, by going to the press - have them write an article.Bullies rely on you not telling the teacher/ your Mum. Tell the teacher!!!
Can i just ask why, if GE Money are such a good company, did I continue to have problems with them, despite me co-operating with them?
I took their advice when i had problems a couple of years ago, including agreeing to sell the car they financed, which i didn't want to do. I continued to pay what I could afford, but they insisted on demanding unaffordable repayments, despite me being able to prove otherwise via the Consumer Credit Counseling Service!!
The important issue here was, I never refused to pay them and offered what I could afford, which is advice any debt counselor would give. I am aware companies aren't obliged to accept lower payments, but surely they could exercise common sense if customers took responsibility.
I see by reading some of the submissions here, people have had different experiences, both good and bad with GE Money.
Frankly i think this company is far from 'wonderful'!
if people fall into financial difficulties, there are effective ways and means of dealing with such people. Unfortunately this company knows none of them.
When i was facing financial difficulties a couple of years ago, this company called me almost every day to ask me to pay money back that they knew i couldn't afford, despite me offering them an affordable payment. Having then been told to sell the car, I was still responsible for the shortfall. Fair enough, I'll add the debt to my CCCS debt management plan. Only for them to send a letter 6 months later saying that the amount i offered to pay them was 'unacceptable'. So GE didn't value my efforts to pay the money back to them. If they did, they'd have accepted my offer of repayment.
I don't have a problem with companies chasing unpaid debts, far from it. I think it's fair to say I'd do same if someone owed me money. What I do object to is the methods these companies undertake in order to get the money back, i.e, calling customers everyday and tarring everyone in arrears with the same brush, assuming they all refuse to pay back.
I still owe money, and i deal with 2 or 3 companies that i owe money to. The others i have managed to develop a good rapport with, as i am now able to stick to an agreement we set out. Both myself and the company came to an agreement over the installments. Unfortunately GE had no intention on doing this and demanded extortionate repayments despite me sending them income/expenses that clearly demonstrated their demand was unreasonable. If this is the way GE conduct their business, then it's no wonder so many people post negative feedback about them on sites such as this.
Ge Money are a wonderful company and very fair to their customers. Most of you folk sitting there moaning about Ge are in debt due to your own very bad money management. When you buy stuff on credit, it is not yours. It needs paying for, you borrowed from somewhere to get that stuff. Store cards administered by GE Money are best kept at arms length.
Try to close your store-card account - it may be left open; write to their "Head of Collections" -the letter will be ignored; fancy a well-earned lie-in on a Sunday morning? A GE goon will phone your house demanding payment on an account that, if your instructions had been followed, should have been closed 15 months earlier; and so on.
Why on earth do "reputable" high-street stores allow this bunch of jokers to run their store card operations? Incompetency or just plain dishonesty - GE and all their works should be avoided like the plague!
Mushy 989.
Your feedback has been helpful, but my debts are with the Consumer Credit Counselling Service who are a registered charity and do not make profit.
I am aware of such debt companies who tried to get my business aka Baines & Earnst, but found their fees for the service to be a waste of time anyway because it would have increased my debts.
Not a problem hope your problem is sorted but can i give you a bit more advise when you are with a debt management company make sure they pay your creditors on time so they dont hassle you. Also if i were you i would not go through a debt management company i would prefer to do it myself as these company make more money of you then they send to your creditors. Anyway good luck and hope you finally get something sorted our for yourself.
hello mushy 989.
Why i say i was forced to sell the car, was down to advice given by a debt counsellor because they were unable to deal with GE on my behalf whilst i had the car registered to me. I couldn't see why this should be the case as the loan with GE was unsecured.
The real issue i have with GE, is now the vehicle has been sold and the proceeds of sale applied to the loan, I still get annoying phone calls from their collections. This is despite numerous explainations that i pay to a debt management plan. Especially as after the car sale, they kept quiet for a few months, thus leading me to conclude the issue of collections closed.
I have tried my upmost to resolve the issue with them, by writing to their collections department, explaining the situation with the payment of the debt. Each time, they have ignored these letters, continued to add charges to my debt, send out default notice (was also charged for this), and continue to call me at least twice a week.
But anyway, thank you for advising me to contact trading standards. I will be soing so this weekend. I am going on the offensive to deal with GE Money. I think it's about time someone stood upto them.
I do understand what you are saying but the way GE or any other company think about it example Blackhorse they would say you have the car you can afford road tax, insurance, petrol and to get it motd so you can afford to pay. I think personally if you are not happy to take it up with Trading Standards because they may be able to help you.
I am not moaning as you put it, Mushy 989
GE Money are an awful company. their customer service is an absolute joke.
Not sure how the employees of these companies can live with themselves working for a company with such unscrupulous practices, like ignoring correspondence and calling on a daily basis to hear the same old story. yes, i'm sure that the workers quite enjoy this, which makes the company all the more infuriating to deal with.
You also say it's peoples own fault that they are in debt. That is total tosh. Personal circumstances can affect people at any time and it can have an adverse effect when it does.
You see, this is the trouble with GE Money. They're such a large company that they are immune from caring about what the customer needs just so they can record record profits.
This happened to me when i was made redundant a while back. The difference being, i contacted my creditors after this had happened and got an understanding with them all, with the exception of the seemingly untouchable GE Money. Too big for that of course!!!
I'm now working, and, having being forced unreasonable to sell the car GE financed, i still get ridiculus idle threats and harrasment from GE Money. They won't stop because they're far too big for anyone to deal with and their arrogance shows in the way they treat people.
I work for GE Money Auto and i think you people are just bitching for no reason its your own fault if you fall in to debt and just remember every company is like this.
GE MONEY ARE NOT HELPFUL. This is despite being in a job now but the constant carping goes on and on.
This is despite attempts to obtain an understanding with their staff by being polite and co-operative AT ALL TIMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I sold my car which was financed through them last year and added the debt to my cccs debt management plan. Firstly GE sent a letter saying that their financial solutions unit couldn't accept the payment that the cccs had calculated. I don't somehow see how they can ask for more than what's on the debt management plan.
Secondly, after a few months of silence, GE Money are suddenly calling me almost daily to demand payments, followed by further letters and a default notice. When I eventually spoke to an agent, they said there is only a minimum amount GE money's aptly named 'financial solutions' unit will accept. They also point out that the monthly contractual payments were taken from the money paid to them from the sale of the vehicle.
The point i'm trying to make here is the fact that i'm only earning a certain amount of money and the big wigs at GE think this ain't enough and think that somehow by magic, i can pay more money when in truth, it's impossible.
It's not rocket science to know that you can only pay within your means and GE Money are unrealistic in thinking debtors should pay more than they can afford. It's impossible!!
I was recently unemployed whilst in a contract with this company. Yes they did contact me every couple of days, but when the situation changed and I got back into a job, they were very helpful and were very happy to search an amicable solution that financially possible on my side. This to me show's that whilst their main agenda is their money, they are more than willing to listen to your circumstances, and where possible help you out without making you broke. At the end of the day, I learnt one major lesson. It is this: LIKE ANY RELATIONSHIP, THE ONE BETWEEN YOUR CREDITORS AND YOU IS A GIVE AND TAKE ONE. IF YOU DON'T SCREW THEM, THEY WON'T SCREW YOU! I think you need to learn this fast.
kellymundy.
I have a job now and i am paying my bills quite well thank you. i am no longer getting any phone calls from my creditors. i have swallowed my pride and taken a long hard look at things. painful thing to do though it is, but it has been worth the suffering and frustration.
i have a good job and get paid well. i'ts taken a while to find the job i've got because of the availability of suitable work in my area.
i haven't posted any comments on this site for a while because i have been busy sorting my life out for the better, but i acknowledge your feedback anyway. only just seen it today.
i have helped myself and relied on no-one to get to where i am now.
anyway, on saying i should get a job with GE money. this wouldn't be possible because of the credit check rules these companies undertake. if you fail a credit check when applying to work in the finance sector, they can't keep you on.
i still stand by my opinions about GE money because i don't go back on my views or perceptions, and besides, everyone is entitled to have their say.
If you can't pay your GE bill because you are looking for work why don't you work for them??? They're always after people who can talk as much as you lot to sell their credit cards!!!
Only people who think they are better than everyone else don't have jobs!!! For god sake there are always places looking for people and ok it might be somewhere like burger king but at least its a paying job while you look for something else.We can't all be the MD for Microsoft now can we!!!!
Swollow your pride people and get off you lazy, moaning asses!!!
