My partner and I had the worst experience with Hotblack Desiato Islington last weekend. We had an appointment to see two properties. The agent who made the appointments was in the office on the day but did not find it necessary to even greet us. Another staff member made us sit down and wait for an agent who would be coming in "5 minutes". After 30 minutes the person showed up. Getting into her dirty car we had to drive to another office to pick up the keys for the properties we were about to see. On the way she told us that her workload was ridiculous and that her colleagues assume she is "superwoman" to schedule all these appointments.
Casually, she mentioned that out of the two properties we made appointments for, one was not available. Apparently, the landlord did not want any more viewings. No one thought it necessary to inform us in advance about this. When we arrived at the apartment we could not believe the "professionalism" of the agent and the whole procedure was topped when the keys did not fit and the doors could not be unlocked.
So in the end we were not able to see any apartments and we were speechless about wasting our afternoon like this. There was not alternative offered to have a different viewing or see another place. Going back to the agency office to voice our disappointment we were cut off by an agent who wanted to close the door in our face. He was neither open for feedback nor did he apologize on behalf of his colleagues or the agency.
I cannot emphasize enough on how unprofessional, superficial and ridiculous this agency is and can only advise to stay away from ever contacting them.
I am glad their slogan is "providing a high quality personal service combined with knowledge and expertise".
Found to be one of the better agents, helpful, pleasent and genuine. Any problems I had were dealt with professionally and I was talked through every stage of the buying process.
A bunch of cowboys from the very moment we moved in. Come to think of it, we werent even in!...
Day 1, they gave us the wrong keys for the property. I called to say we couldnt get in and was told the lock was a little stifff and to keep trying. The key eventually broke and we were told we were liable for a new one and a sunday call out for a locksmith. Our entire contents were still on the driveway waiting to be moved in but somehow I was liable for a stiff lock and an incorrect set of keys!
That was the start. We had severe plumbing issues that were never resolved in the year that we lived there. We survived a winter with cold showers and midnight mopping sessions and eventually decided after 10 months to withold rent as we werent getting what we paid for or what we were legally entitled to. The legal letters arrived quicker than the plumbers and it all got a little scary and extremelly stressful. We approached a lawyer who informed us that we were right to withold rent as it is so much harder to get your money back once you've paid it. Effectively, you have to sue which is time consuming and expensive.
The whole company seemed part of the flash car and tie estate agency set which made me weary from the start but we liked the property so much we went ahead cautiously. I thought if we really looked after the place there couldn't possibly be any problems but when you're dealing with people like this there is no way to protect yourself.
I just feel sorry for the landlord who entrusted her investment to these knuckleheads as she was the one to lose out in the end. She eventually contacted us directly to try and resolve the issue.
I wouldn't go near them again or any other slick estate agent. The whole industry is being grossly exploited so these chimps profit hugely. Home owners and tennants are paying for fleets of crap minis and bad cologne and my advice is to buy, sell or rent privately (and honestly) so that we irradicate this scum.
And if another landlord tries to take my deposit I will put your head on a stick.
